Jimmy, are you talking about Outlook.com, Microsoft's new email program that is replacing Hotmail? It doesn't have anything to do with MSN though. Not sure what you're talking about.

Re: MSN security code - 08/04/13 03:59 PM

I don't use MSN Outlook, but I've had problems logging in on other sites when my web browser was blocking their scripting and/or they were using a newer (or different) version of Java than what their site was using. This happened more often with a Mac though. I've also had this problem with Firefox on a Mac when nothing seemed to be blocked -- but when using a different web browser (like Opera, Seamonkey, or Safari) on the same Mac, logging in worked fine. Firefox on a Mac is really annoying sometimes.

It could also be that the MSN server is having problems and you'll be able to log in after it's fixed.

But for now, see if you have a better result using a different web browser. If you're using IE, try Firefox or Opera. If you're using Firefox, try IE or Opera (or whatever web browser looks good).

If you have Java or scripting disabled, try temporarily enabling it and see if you're able to log in.

Draclvr seems to know more about Outlook and MSN than I do. So you might want to check that what you're logging into the correct site with the correct username and password.

Draclvr-it is Outlook but Microsoft has added a code as extra security-they send it to your email but if you cannot get into your email how do you enter the correct code?I am using explorer 8.

I haven't been given an extra security code. You sure the email isnt a scam?

I don't use MSN Outlook myself but I've just tried it and I logged in with just my email address and password.

I've had similar issues with Microsoft email accounts (e.g. Hotmail and MSN) they're a total mess, and support is nonexistent. They are literally daft.

It's the same sort of deal, request a security code to my phone or alternate email address, and of course none ever arrives. Open a ticket to support; they'll advise resetting the account and logging in with a onetime security code, which also never arrives.

Pestering them does no good, they just refer you to step 1, and it’s an endless loop.

I'm pretty much done with anything MS does these days.

The issue seems to be related to the device you login with. If the device is unknown, it starts a process that eventually leads to the account being blocked. Support will deny that there is any issue with the account, in spite of being sent images of the "this account is blocked" message.

This seems to be pretty obvious - apparently not, if you work for support:

Sign-in is blocked
Sign-in with --------@hotmail.com is blocked for one of these reasons:
Someone entered the wrong password too many times.
If you signed up for this account through an organization, you might not be able to use it yet.

Wow, that's ridiculous. I have two Outlook.com email accounts and I've gotten nothing like that from them. Supposedly they will be - if they haven't already - transitioning all Hotmail accounts over to Outlook.com.

I log into them from several different devices and still don't get any of these notices.

The account was converted, but the alias (Hotmail) still exists. That's the one that's locked out.

I use Outlook but get my e-mails through my ISP, not MSN. Actually, my ISP uses Google for e-mail service and it's been working well.

Are you saying that you're using MSN Explorer?

Yes-explorer 8.

Re: MSN security code - 08/07/13 12:34 AM

I think you're talking about Internet Explorer, MSN Explorer is a different product.

Have you tried logging into your email from the URL below?

Mail.Live.Com

If your email account ends with hotmail.com, try replacing it with msn.com...

that url brings me to my wife's account which is working and we have msn.com at the end.I cannot get to my account!

Re: MSN security code - 08/07/13 03:05 AM

I just went through this recently but already can't remember it too well. You need to put an "alternate email address" (use your wife's if hers is working). Have your code emailed to your wife's email address, then you can type the code where you need to, to get to your account.

I haven't had to put a code to access my email though, just my actual account (like to look at my billing info). I had to do it more than once. It seems like each time you try to access it, they send a new code.

Inland,

MSN Explorer is a 'branded' form of Internet Explorer developed by Microsoft that, according to Wikipedia, "integrates MSN and Windows Live features such as Hotmail and Messenger with a web browser" and, from what I heard years ago, is as much of a pain as AOL.
I didn't think it still existed.
Wrong again!

I learned something new today too... It doesn't sound like anything I ever want to deal with either. Give me good old IE or Firefox or Chrome any time.

JIMMYK,

If you want a new browser, I'd suggest Opera.
Someone else might suggest Firefox, Safari or Chrome.
Internet Explorer is really behind all of them when it comes to speed as well as safety, I think.
You have to have IE on your computer if you use Windows but you sure can ignore it.

I know Opera has a web based email program you can use and I believe the others do as well.

I use WinLiveMail, an independent email program that doesn't depend on a browser and is something like the old Outlook Express.
You download it free from Microsoft which no longer includes an independant email program (OE) with Internet Explorer.
If you do this, your email comes to you, as it does for Homer6, through your ISP.

If you'd like to use Gmail, which is web based, you can install it with any browser.
I use Gmail for anything I don't want coming to me at my primary email address.

All of them, WLM, Gmail and the browsers, allow you to import your emails and contacts from the email program you use now.
Assuming you ever get into it!

Gil.

If your email account is an MSN or hotmail account - type in your own.
