Location of Saved Games Win7

This is probably a very silly question but ....

Who or what "decides" where saved games will be stored on Windows 7 ??

Is it down to the Game Developer or the Operating System or some other mysterious body ??

When I first started using Win7, finding a saved game was often a HUGE problem.
Help from Gameboomers nearly always got me sorted but why should we "non-techies" be subjected to such frustration

If you ever find out, be sure to let us know. I can see why later versions of Windows put saves somewhere other than C:\Program Files\Game-name\saves -- but what was wrong with putting them in a folder inside of the (My) Documents folder? Instead Windows 7 hides saves all over the place, in various subfolders inside hidden folders.

It wouldn't be any fun if locating the saves wasn't an adventure

It's hilarious sometimes just how convoluted the save folder locations are. You literally have to leave a trail of breadcrumbs in order to find your way back again.

Yes !! And end up in the Gingerbread House where the Witch might or might not have the saves !!

We need a save game walkthrough to find them.
