Gaming Laptop - 11/29/13 02:06 AM

I need another gaming laptop in uk but it's a minefield does anyone know of any that are suitable. I have about £400 to spend I was thinking last time I got a refurbished one so I don't mind if I get another one of those. Anyone have a link to any as I don't want to get one with a dud onboard graphics card. Thanks

ritchiesbabe, I've been looking on-line for the UK and I'm just not finding any gaming laptops that have a stand-alone video card for £400. But I'm not sure where to look for refurbished ones. Maybe you could find a couple and post the links here for someone to give you some advice?

I looked at Laptops Direct and I did find some gaming laptops, but they were all more than £400.

This appears to be a pretty good article on the best gaming laptops under £500 which might give you some ideas of what to look for.

Thanks Draclvr unfortunately my mum rushed me into buying a laptop and I have bought a dear one at nearly £450 but the [blip] thing has onboard graphics so can't play the games. I'm so annoyed and worst thing is I still have access to my sisters laptop as her moving out at the moment has fallen through. I did get one from laptops direct but an acer notebook. Even if it would let me run the game there seem to be other things I'm not happy with I will pick one off that list. I don't know why I trusted my brothers advice on a good laptop cos he has been tricked with onboard graphics cards before.

I'm sorry to hear that.
Are you able to return it?

Oh, that is too bad. I hope Laptops Direct will let you return it.

The Lenovo G505 for gaming that you're probably thinking of has an "optional discrete-class graphics up to 2 GB DDR3 Radeon HD 8570M." That's a very different laptop than the one you found at Amazon.co.uk.

You "might" be able to play Broken Sword 5 with that laptop, since the listed system requirements I found for it are lower than most current adventure games.

Do you have links to any that are suitable and under £500 Jenny as its all gobbledygook to me. My brother has supposedly found one that's fine but hes basing it on the fact the laptop can run direct x 11 there's no talk of what graphics card it has

Any modern computer can run DirectX 11.
That's not an indication of whether it's good for playing games or not.
Most adventure games still use DirectX 9.0c.
You absolutely need to know the graphics card it has.

I'm not an expert on gaming laptops -- especially not from companies outside the US.
I'd ask at the notebookreview.com forum.

They have a special forum for "What Notebook Should I Buy" as well as an International readership.
