IE8 with Windows XP - 04/18/14 06:41 PM
I upgraded to IE8 a few weeks ago. I didn't know at the time that support for it would also stop at the same time it did for Windows XP. I downloaded and installed the 04/08/14 updates to XP and IE8. I don't know whether the problem I'm having started with the installation of IE8 or after the update.
I cannot connect to any Microsoft secure (https) website. I get the message, "There is a problem with this website's security certificate." And the advice to close the page without connecting. It gives me the option to connect anyhow but, when I click on it, I get the message, "Internet Explorer cannot download this page."
Until yesterday I thought it was a problem with only MS secure sites because all other https sites I had tried to connect to worked just fine. Then yesterday I was searching the Internet for information on some of the alternative browsers and tried to connect to 2 https sites related to 2 of them - with the same results.
I have disabled everything I can find pertaining to security certificates in IE8's security settings and also the SmartScreen Filter, but to no avail.
Is there some setting I need to change, or do you think this is MS's parting gift to those of us still using XP?
