The sacred rings pc game freezes when exiting the game

Hi fellow Boomers,
I have the original BOXED version of "The Sacred Rings". Each time I exit the game (from the main menu), the screen freezes. The only way I can then shut off my Win XP computer is to turn off the machine by using the Push Switch on the front of the computer. It's not the way it's supposed to be done, but I don't have a choice. If any of you have had the same problem with this game, I would appreciate it if you know of an ALTERNATE way of shutting down the game. THANKS.

Sandord Have your tried pressing ctrl, alt, delete so you can shut down normally?

Try closing the game by using Alt-F4 (hold down the Alt key and press the F4 key) instead of choosing Exit in the game menu.

Alt-F4 will close down the current application (the game) without having to shut down all of Windows and when it works, it is faster than Ctrl-Alt-Delete.

I have used Alt-F4 for games that took forever to exit through the menu.

Thanks so much for your feedback, Drac and Jenny. I will try the "alt+f4" option first. If that doesn't work, I'll try Drac's suggestion. I'll keep you posted on this situation.

Unfortunately, neither option worked. Very weird. I am now wondering if the download version of this game would "work" properly. (Just a thought).

Are you saying that neither Alt-F4 nor Ctrl-Alt-Delete works BEFORE you click the Exit button? If you click the Exit button first, it may freeze the computer. But certainly Ctrl-Alt-Delete should work as long as you haven't clicked the exit button.

Something is probably wrong with your installation of the game or you have a different version than I do.

Mine is a 4 CD set which after installation plays without the need for a CD. I have no problems exiting from the game on a WinXP SP3 system.

For some unexplainable reason, my game is now exiting normally. Also the cursor is much more stable now. I guess the glitch became "unglitched" all by itself. LOL
Robert, I have the same boxed version of the game that YOU have. My OS is also WINXP SP3. I thank you all for your input. I am now just past the part that Umang has "moved" Nicopol's house. I played this game when it was first released some years ago, and I don't remember having any problems with it at that time.
