gamenut are you sure about the file information. I searched finding nothing using that exe listing you posted. Double check make sure you got it right. Here is a resource that tells you what most of those services and processes running on your computer are. Just type the complete name in the search box on the top of the page and it will tell you what it does. It's free costing nothing. Some times it's even helpful. Process List

And you can make the Description column wider by dragging its header divider.

As another option, gamenut, if you download the free version of SuperAntiSpyware -- http://www.superantispyware.com/ -- it has a System Investigator tool that you can use to find out everything that is currently running on your machine, where it comes from and whether it is considered safe or not. (SuperAntiSpyware is a great malware grabber, similar to Malwarebytes, but Malwarebytes doesn't have the "System Investigator" tool.)

And Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware can be run alongside Norton... they do not interfere with each other like two antivirus programs will.

It may be one of those viruses that makes up its own name to avoid detection. Some virus (polymorphic types) also create a different signature each time they infect, which makes it difficult for antivirus/antimalware to find them.

Try one of the suggested antimalware programs and see if it's able to detect what virus it really is. There's no guarantee, but it's worth a try.

There is malware that pretends it's Google Chrome, or attaches to it. It has several variants. Here are some

Google will find more.

There are various ways that a virus can hide from an antivirus scanner after you've been infected. It can be polymorphic, it can have rootkit functionality, etc. Sometimes the antivirus scanner can detect the virus if it's run from a separate installation (such as the Kaspersky Rescue CD), but stubborn virus will re-infect unless ALL virus files are found and eliminated.

Ccleaner is not an antivirus or antimalware program. It cleans out temporary files, and cleans registry, but doesn't help with virus or other malware.

Yes, as others have said, Malwarebytes can be run alongside antivirus. It can also be run alongside other antimalware scanners.

If you have a different computer, do your downloading of antimalware programs on that. Otherwise this may be a browser redirect virus that routes your connection through a proxy that adds an unwanted "something extra" to every download you make, including antimalware programs.

Re: HELP! WHAT IS THIS? - 10/24/14 06:57 PM

ok-- guys. I finally gave up and called Norton and got it fixed. that file belonged to Google Chrome and also QuickTime7 was a culprit. I have NEVER wanted or needed Chrome and am very careful when downloading any software updates (like Adobe) to UNCHECK boxes offering it. So-don't know where it came from but whatever...it had happened yesterday afternoon.
Anyway a very nice AND Patient lady in the Phillipenes got rid of the problem. Probably to them was no big deal...since they deal with Big Stuff...but to me it was. You could not get it to stop...I had tried from Task Manager..clicking on that file name and (there were 6 listings...all the same file name)and when shut down 1 then another or a couple more of the same name were added!! It was running amok!! and using up resources! running all the time!
Well, hopefully it is gone now!
Thank you ALL for all your input and suggesitons! So glad had 'Boomers there for me....and Norton too!

Is Google Chrome slowly but surely becoming more of a problem than an alternative browser? I just keep hearing more and more bad things about it. I don't use it, but if the more Google squirms its way into our computers, the more it does not bode well for all things Google.

With a name like "Fdceasegvf.exe" I still wonder if it was the real Chrome -- or an infection of Chrome.

However I've noticed that when Firefox "updates" I may end up with a couple of add-ons or plugins I didn't ask for. I would not be surprised if Chrome does the same.
