Steam sign in

Steam sign in - 08/15/15 06:34 PM

I have tried over 20 times to sign into Steam even after setting a new password. There is a place for support but you have to sign into your account..........it's a real catch 22. Does anyone else have problems signing in? This is not the first time I've had problems with it.

When I sign in it always think I am on a new machine and they send me a special log in number that I copy and paste on my steam page that says... my log in number is.....
do you get that far?

Hi Winfrey. I have gotten that message and then tried to sign in with it as well as the new password that was reset and it just keeps telling me the password is incorrect. I have found no way to email them with this issue and it's driving me crazy as I was going to purchase a game.

Have you tried a different web browser to see if you have better luck?

Have you tried both copy/paste and typing the password in manually?
Despite that people recommend copy/paste, I have one Windows 7 computer where it never works.

I forgot about that. I have had problems with different sites not accepting the copy/paste and I had to type in the info. I'll give that a try.
Thanks Jenny100.

It worked, thanks so much!

Did you ever figure out if running CCleaner was getting rid of your Steam cookie, Winfrey?

No, I logged in to Steam... no problem.... then ran CCleaner... no problem... shut down the machine and restarted Steam no problem... seems like it just forgets at times...

Thanks Jenny100.

Glad you were able to find the solution.

There are some explanations of why copy/paste doesn't work. For example, the last post here
https://discussions.agilebits.com/discus...-some-web-sites

and the article here, which discusses the problem more thoroughly and includes why some places deliberately disable copy/paste

Interesting... I've always figured when I can't copy and paste, it was something like that.

Well, now you know it isn't CCleaner, Winfrey!

Re: Steam sign in - 08/16/15 06:25 PM

ok, here's a question regarding Steam... I have Steam client bootstrapper loaded on my computer... which when I click on it takes me to Steam that shows: Store, Library, Community, Winfrey1 and I can play my games.
If I google Steam.. I get store steam powered... does not have Library.... and can not load games from here and this one is where I have to log in all the time..
Edit.

I logged out of store... community and logged back in...no problem... ran CCleaner and tried to log in and nope... had to go get that special password. When I looked at CCleaner results I did not see a reference to Steam... but I guess the cache or cookie that I need was in there somewhere..

Re: Steam sign in - 08/16/15 06:58 PM

Just messaged you on Facebook. I checked in CCleaner and did not have any cookies set as I haven't been to Steam for some time. Went to the site and had to log in... used my Roboform password manager and logged in right away. Checked out my games and a bunch of other stuff and closed the page - did not log out.

Then I checked in CCleaner and I had two cookies - one for store.steampowered.com and one for steamcommunity.com. Went to log in at Steam and was asked to log in. Used my Roboform and got right in.

I went back and reran CCleaner after opening community steam and yes there were 2 cookies and I went to options and then cookies and added them to my leave alone stuff. Logged out of community steam and then reloaded and I was in with no new pass code having to be given. But still interesting that Steam client bootstrapper never dropped me.

Terri824 do you run CCleaner... you may have to do this to stop losing your password.

Thanks Winfrey, just reading your post and thinking the same thing. I'm so bad about knowing what to do but forgetting to do it.
