Broken Sword 4 - 09/15/15 03:55 PM

Can someone please let me know if Broken Sword 4 is mouse driven or keyboard driven, and also will it run on Windows 7?

Thanks

Since your queries are more of a technical nature, I have moved your post over to Glitches.

I believe that the game controls are a combination of mouse and keyboard.

I seem to recall someone here with Windows 7 having trouble installing the game from the disc due to copy protection issues - but that may depend on which version of the game you have.

You could also choose to download and play the game from GOG here. It supports Windows 7 and eliminates any possible copy protection issues.

It is both.
The game gives you the choice of point-and-click and keyboard control.
But neither option is well done.

There are problems with pathfinding. You will find times where you click ahead of George and he turns around and runs the other way. He may get "stuck" on the edge of something and never get where you wanted him to go without extra clicking to readjust his path.

When I played the game, I used the keyboard for movement in some areas and the mouse for movement in others -- depending on what worked best in that particular location.

The UK version used SecuROM v7, so I'm not surprised to hear it didn't work on some computers. I don't know what the North American version used as copy "protection." It had a different publisher but may have had the same DRM. I would strongly advise against the disc version.

Thanks for the info.

It helps to clarify the position regarding this game.
Currently, I am heroically struggling through MJ 2 on my old XP machine, but I fear that machine may soon give up.

I found that when I played Broken Sword 3 on it, it did not like the machine. Specifically, it did not like Avast, and I always had - in starting the game - to remove the CD from the drive then reload it when prompted to do so. Bit of a pain. And I did not like the keyboard controls.

So the advice to avoid the disc version went straight to the heart of the request, so I could go to Steam or GOG.

Thank you.

Perhaps I really ought l go to the Broken Sword 5 game which is sold as Windows 7 compatible - maybe some nice Gameboomer would sell me one (or does that one also suffer from Machine Incompatibility)?

Why would you want the DVD version of Broken Sword 5?
According to the ***one star review*** at Amazon, it's incomplete -- only includes the first half, and the 2nd half has to be downloaded -- only the download doesn't work (at least it didn't for the reviewer). You end up paying import price for half a game.

Once again, thank you for the information.

Perhaps I will try the BS 4 download version to start with, and then make a further decision regarding BS 5 when I find out how well I get on with BS 4.

Presumably the download version of BS 5 contains both parts, and does not require a separate download for a Part 2, and thus works satisfactorily?

Both game downloads include the full game.
However I don't know how the current version of Broken Sword 5 handles what was originally the 2nd part -- whether they combined both parts into one game or whether you end up with a Part One and a Part Two after installing.

If this helps I have all five broken swords plus the revised version of number 1 from Gog. All of the games played without issues on my Win 7.

As for BS 5, yes it came out in two parts and when I installed part 2 the game remembered where I was recognizing all saves and continued forward as if it were a single game. I checked my games folder in GOG just now and it appears the files for BS 5 are listed as a single game 6 files with a total of 7 gigs.
