Dracula 3 Path of the Dragon from GOG

Dracula 3 Path of the Dragon from GOG - 06/20/16 05:02 AM

Having sound issues in the game. When I start the game there is conversation; when Arno is on the train he is writing and you can hear him. When he gets to the in you cannot hear the conversation he has with Ozana. When he walks into the parlor, you can hear Janos say something to him but when you go over by Janos and have a conversation you can not hear it. All other sounds are working (dogs barking, desk bell rings although very low, footsteps, etc.)

Any EASY suggestions. I did just write to GOG also after looking at their troubleshooting section for the game. One thing I had to do from there is change my config.ini so the game would play in full screen. I looked in my AMD settings for something suggested there that might affect the sound but it was set as they said. Also, when the game starts, in the bottom right corner of my screen I get a pop up about Windows Basic Color Scheme - some program running that is incompatible. It goes away too fast for me to see exactly what it is saying. Don't know if that could be anything about the absence of voices or not.

I tried a couple of different compatibilities and running as administrator.

Thanks.

Have you tried using compatibility mode?
Dracula 3 was made for XP, but if you are using Windows 7, try other compatibilities too, like 2000 or 98.

Did the game have an option for subtitles?

The "Windows Basic Color Scheme" notice just means the game isn't using Aero, so the computer has to temporarily use "Basic Color" that doesn't have the transparent appearance that Aero does.

If you don't know what Aero is, check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Aero

I've tried several different compatibility modes, though not all of them.

Yes, the game has subtitles.

It seems odd that I have some voices but not most apparently but I have music and all other sounds.

No reply from GOG yet.

For the heck of it I just went into Mata Hari which was working fine before I tried to play Dracula 3 and now it is having sound issues also. Voices but very low and not coming out right (sorry, can't describe what I mean). I'm worried now that I changed some setting somewhere and made something worse in my whole system.

With the low voices in Mata Hari (volume still at 100% as it was before) at some points I'm getting an echo type sound . Also, should have clapping or booing (dancing) and that is not coming through. I had no problem with this game prior to trying Dracula 3.

No sound in Solitaire anymore.

I sure hope when I restart tomorrow I'm back to normal!

Well, thankfully Mata Hari and Solitaire are back to normal sound today but I am afraid to try Dracula 3 again in case it messes up the other sounds again.

Has anybody played this game on GOG? Maybe this is their version and it is not supposed to be fully voiced?

Tried it again - still doesn't work. Everything else still ok though. Maybe uninstall and re-install?

I very much doubt GOG would remove intentionally voices from their version, and even if they did, it wouldn't explain your problems with Mata Hari and Solitaire.

There may be a problem with the GOG version, but it's supposed to work with Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 10.

Dracula 3 is listed in the Windows 7 and Games thread. I think that was the disc version. The only problem was an issue with Aero, but not with sound.

You could try an uninstall/reinstall of Dracula 3.
Or wait until GOG gets back to you.
Have you tried Dracula 1 and 2 from GOG?

Re: Dracula 3 Path of the Dragon from GOG - 06/22/16 04:30 AM

Yes Jenny. I recently replayed Dracula 1 and 2 from GOG with no problems.

I'll try the uninstall/reinstall this weekend probably. No word from GOG yet but tonight I also posted in their discussion board.

I didn't really think they'd remove the conversations but thought I'd ask. Looking at the reviews on there though after I posted that question and that certainly doesn't seem to be the case. Is it not weird though that I have all the music and background sounds and voices in some parts?

I'm wagering there is something wrong with the GOG version . I have it in my library , so I downloaded & installed . After editing the .ini for full screen , the game would not launch , no matter what I did . I uninstalled , pulled out my physical copy , installed & started play with no issues sound wise or video wise , other than some stuttering at the initial cut scenes . Just to mention , I use Win 10 Pro x64 , an AMD R9 390x video card , 16gb ram , Asus Xonar DX sound card (ran to a set of Klipsch 5.1 speakers , & a set of Sennheiser HD 380 Pro headphones) .

Thanks for that info Creeping_Doom.

I'm using Windows 7 Home, also with an AMD R9 390X card, only 8 gig of ram, and a Creative Sound Blaster Z card.

Not a problem ! If you have a physical copy , try installing , see what happens .

I do have a physical copy somewhere around here. I may try it and see.

Well, I tried uninstall/reinstall but that didn't work so I tried my disc and that also doesn't work either. Same problem - I cannot get all of the conversation so I guess I am going to skip replaying this game.

No word from GOG either!

Maybe an issue between the game and your sound card drivers?
If one of the compatibility modes doesn't help, I don't know what to do other than try on an older computer with XP.

Thanks Jenny100. Unfortunately I haven't gotten my XP's back in working order (if that is even possible). Truthfully, I didn't like the game that much but was hoping to have a better appreciation of it this time around.

One way to find out . Uninstall the sound card drivers , remove the card , make sure onboard sound is enabled , then see if there are any changes . May be that , either the drivers are somehow corrupted , or the card is bad .

And just to say I did, I installed this game on my Windows 10 drive from the original disc. It plays perfectly with no sound or video issues. Right now I'm using my on-board sound.

Re: Dracula 3 Path of the Dragon from GOG - 06/26/16 05:19 AM

I'm not comfortable messing around with my sound card or drivers. I suppose it is not too hard to change the default from the card to onboard sound but no other games (at this point anyway) are giving me any issues so it is just not really worth it to me, but thank you for that input Creeping_Doom. Thanks Draclvr for checking yours out too.

I guess when I'm not being afraid of my own shadow, I can actually accomplish something. I managed to update my sound card drivers, installed the game again from my disc, and it works just fine! I guess I will be replaying it after all but meanwhile I already started a different game.

Thanks Jenny. Thanks Drac. And also thanks Creeping_Doom.

Sometimes I just have to approach things in my own time and way.
