I found some info online that the saves for Windows 7 are located here:
I’m on Win 7 & found the saves by following this path: System (c) - Users - ‘User name’ - appData - Local - Daedalic Entertainment - A New Beginning. If you can’t find them try enabling show all hidden files.
Being that you are looking for them on Windows XP, maybe look around for a folder that says Daedalic Entertainment - you might be able to locate them that way.

Didn't XP used to put saves in a subfolder of the My Documents folder, the subfolder usually being named after the game.
Another possibility is a subfolder of
C:\Documents and Settings\your-username\Local Settings\
the subfolder being named after the developer or publisher and a subfolder inside that subfolder being named after the game.

Yes. Why not.
That's how I have mine set.
I also have it set to show file extensions -- so I can see if a file has an .exe on the end or not.

Just make sure not to delete a "hidden" file or folder.
Hidden files and folders usually show up as being a shade lighter than normal files and folders, or sort of translucent instead of solid-looking. For example this picture shows how a hidden folder looks compared to a regular one:
