Jekyll and Hyde 2001 help

I keep getting stuck in the 2001 Jekyll and Hyde game, not through any fault of my own--whenever I try to enter the dragon's mouth and go to the warehouse as Hyde in level 2, the game immediately crashes.



That's where it gets stuck. I installed the game straight from the CD and I still have this problem. It also crashes whenever Jekyll tries to enter more than 1 room at a time in level 2, though that can be gotten around by frequent saving and/or dying. Level 1 ran without any problems aside from a bug where the cages wouldn't lower when I went back to the tower room.

Does anyone know what might be causing it? I'm playing on Windows XP in 98/ME compatibility Mode, so I don't THINK it should be crashing like this...

It was crash-prone back when it was released, though not everyone reported crashes.

Inferno suggested compatibility mode for "NT 4.0 (Service Pack 5)" rather than 98/ME though.

She has some other suggestions, which may or may not help.
She had vanilla XP and not SP2 or SP3.
Her advice is all I know about though.
Dreamcatcher simply claimed it wouldn't work under XP, as you can see ***here***.

Thanks! At first it wouldn't work on XP--the game loaded but I couldn't perform any actions--until I tried compatibility mode.

I tried NT 4.0 mode and that slowed every button command to a crawl I didn't risk trying to play the game since I could barely navigate the menus. I'm using SP3, though.

EDIT: AH HA! Disabling visual themes in NT 4.0 WORKED! HYDE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!

Yes, Inferno often recommended disabling visual themes and advanced text services.

Well, have fun with it.

I got stuck again I just killed the vampire boss as Hyde. There was a very long cutscene afterward and it saved automatically beforehand as he turned back into Jekyll. I died later on and reloaded the save and now I'm stuck as Hyde! The cutscene won't happen. And to make matters worse my OTHER saves are in LEVEL 2 I have to go all the way back there by hand!

I can't find any save games for Jekyll and Hyde.
Otherwise I'd recommend one.

I made it back to where the game glitched but now I can't beat the boss I tried for 2 hours!

There may be a way to skip the boss.
