Voices on speakers advertising Comcast without my permission - 01/19/17 11:11 PM

This is on my speakers and will not stop. Is this Apple? Over and over again the same thing, What can I do? This is the first time I have turned my speakers on in days. I bet this is what has my computer messed up. The ads will change sometimes, but never stop. I discovered this when I tried to play a game today.

Sounds like it's infected.
Since it mostly sounds like adware, do you have MalwareBytes or SpyBot or anything similar to get rid of adware? I thought you said you already scanned in another message though.

If it's using a rootkit, you won't be able to get rid of it when booted to the same Windows installation that the malware is on.

If it only happens when your web browser is open, it's possible that it's something that installed as a browser add-on and you can get rid of it.

Also check your (Add/Remove) Programs for something strange on the off chance you can get rid of it from there..

Jenny100, I have run MalwareBytes and it show nothing. I do not have SpyBot. I looked at my programs. What is Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager Suite and Cyberlink Media Suite Essentials. Where would be a safe place to download SpyBot?

Both Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager Suite and Cyberlink Media Suite Essentials may have installed along with Windows 10. Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager Suite is sometimes installed along with a network card or motherboard with onboard LAN. It's not what's causing this problem.

If MalwareBytes can't find an infection, the infection may be using a rootkit. Doesn't mean it's not there, just that it's good at hiding.

If you can't get rid of the infection yourself, you may have to take the computer to the computer doctor.

Otherwise you may want to post at https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/

In your other thread you mentioned uninstalling games.
Were any of these "free" games?
"Free" games may contain malware that installs along with the game -- but of course doesn't uninstall with them.

None of the games were "free"games. They were disc and GOG games. Should I download Spybot and give that a try, if so, can you advise me on a safe site to get the download?

Spybot's website is https://www.safer-networking.org/

If MalwareBytes didn't find the problem, I don't think Spybot will either, but you can always try and see. If you've already got an antivirus running, be sure NOT to get the Spybot version that includes an antivirus. You don't want two antivirus running at the same time.

After downloading, be sure to update the signatures before scanning.

If malware has already gotten inside your computer, it is quite possible that nothing you install on the same computer will detect the malware. Hiding from antivirus is something malware is specifically designed to do. Antimalware programs are much better at prevention.

I think you'll have to go over to the bleeping computer forum or take it to the computer doctor.

It sounds like the games weren't the problem. It's more likely you got the infection from an infected ad on a webpage.

Geek Squad tried to fix my computer remotely today with no luck. I will have to take it to the store and have a restore done. I have had computers over 20 years and have never had this problem. What ever got into my computer really is hiding well. The Comcast ad is on a loop and repeats the same thing over and over. You can hear the voices from games and new stories, but the ad never stops.

It does sound like a bad one... I'm sorry they have to do a restore as you will most likely lose all your files and data.

Two last gasps you can try:
1). Run Malwarebytes (full scan) in safe mode and not allowing a full boot up. This has worked for me in the past.
2). Try to see if anything on your computer says conduit. Look in add/remove programs and do a search from the start button for anything that says conduit. If you find something ,it is malware that cant be removed by regular programs such as malwarebytes but it can be done in a series of steps.

Another last gasp: download Malwarebytes rootkit (free download from here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/malwarebytes-anti-rootkit/ wave

I just did a Google search for "virus Comcast ad on speakers" and found there has been a campaign against Comcast. There was a solution found that had worked.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/45783-63-random-audio-playing
"Download & run Kaspersky's TDSSKILLER" which removes a rootkit.

This did not work for everyone on the thread. Also mentioned was
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

There was also a comment about replacing rpcss.dll.
"Replace rpcss.dll in the c:\windows\system32 folder. Note that if you're putting it on a Win 7 Pro 32 bit machine, it needs to come from a 32 bit machine, the file is different for 64 bit."

In short this is a difficult malware to get rid of as there are several versions of it.

R.Gault-That one guy said he re-installed windows and it was still there. Yikes!

Sounds like this is one where she has made the right decision to take it in and have someone else work on it. I've used TDSSKILLER from Kaspersky before and it's a great tool for rootkits that respawn at startup.

Geo, Upsydaisy, Robert Gault and Draclvr, Thank you so much for your responses. I took my computer to Geek Squad yesterday, tried remote process, but could not fix problem. Hopefully it can be fixed with "hands on" process. I dusted off my XP and I am chugging along. This "baby" is old and somewhat slow, but then so am I.
