Next Win-10 Problem - 10/01/17 09:16 AM

I saved my documents to a flash drive for backup. I don't exactly remember what format they were in but it wasn't "word". When I transferred them from the flash drive to the win-10 they changed to word format.I clicked to open one and it wanted me to go and buy a version of word to use to open them. The cheapest was aprox.$70. I don't want to spend that kind of money just to open my documents. I tried an app called "doc opener" but couldn't get that to even come up.I remember in win-7 you could right click and it would change formats for you but that doesn't happen here.Any ideas?

Try opening up your WordPad in Windows 10 and then opening up the files from WordPad. Just type WordPad into the search box...

Since you have a Microsoft account, you also have access to free versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. online. But since you just got rid of the sign-in you don't want, you probably don't want to use that!!

Ok I did that and I can open them from there but can I change the format there so I can go to file explorer and look at them like I normally do.

I assume you mean without having to open up WordPad? Sure... just right click on one of the files and select Open With... in the options select WordPad (you may have to drill down into "choose another app" if it isn't listed) and then check "always use this to open these files" or some such. You don't need to change the format, just what you use to open the file up with.

Yippee! Hope that makes your life easier... please feel free to pop back in with Windows 10 questions. I get these all the time from people when I work on their computers.
