For those of you who need instructions for cryptic crossword clues, check out this page .

These have all been created by a variety of well-known constructors. There may be one or two that we might question, but they're still fun. Please explain all answers.

-2. Surf is bound to be heard (4)
-3. Party demonstrator (6)
-4. Central America's educators boxed in? (5)
-5. Competitor in tournament ran third (7)
-6. Authorizations for fellow on June 2 and July 3, for example (8)

-8. Explorer, heading north on business, leaves from Havana? (7)

follows a = a + b
route = road

authorizations = mandates (direct)
man (fellow) + dates (June 2 and July 3)

I agree, Lex! I know what it's like to spend a lot of time trying to solve a typo.

Denis, surprisingly, I don't think shower and clean are direct synonyms. They're related, but not directly interchangeable.
