Rog's Rag-bag - 02/26/15 05:18 PM

Maths, logic, trivia, puns, general silliness - an assortment of stuff too disparate to go under any other title. In other words, same old rubbish.

-1. Half the natives of Western Farlands are Nungas and the other half are Balgas. Nungas always tell the truth and Balgas always lie. They are outwardly indistinguishable. Three natives (call them A, B and C)approach a visitor. A says: "All three of us are Balgas." Then B says:"Only one of us is a Nunga."
How many (if any) of the three are Nungas, and which one(s)?

-2. A rebus:
Code:
   go
   go
   go
-> go x

-3. The Spirit of Ecstasy is found where?

-4. I had an old computer program on punched cards that told me whether a year was a leap year or not. However, Mrs Worrier shuffled the cards as a result of some alleged insult I was supposed to have made. (Insult? Moi?). Can you arrange them in the correct order? (You must remember to take into account that years ending in 00 are leap years only if they are evenly divisible by 400. Thus, 1900 was not a leap year, but 2400 will be. Years ending in any other digits are leap years if and only if they are divisible by 4.)

Here is the shuffled pack - what should the correct order be?

a. Divide the year by 400
b. Divide the year by 4
c. Write "leap year" and stop
d. Read the year chosen (from 1801 to 2401.)
e. If there is a remainder, skip the next five statements
f. Write "not a leap year" and stop
g. If there is a remainder, skip the next statement
h. Divide the year by 100
i. If there is a remainder skip the next two statements

-5. A "sort-of" Tom Swifty:
"Have you anything by Hugo?" asked L-- m--------.

-6.Which actor provided the voice of Mr.Magoo, the myopic, dog-hating old codger in the short animated films of his adventures in the 50's and > 60?

-7. Consider the following group of words:
preview, tallow, selection, golden, braided, clamp
One of the three following words fits in the group. Which one and why?
tracing, cashew, convert

-8. I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then -- --- --.
