Tom's Tuesday Ten - 05/10/16 06:11 PM

More Tom Swifties.(For example "I'll have a martini," said Tom, drily.) As ever, grovelling apologies for any re-runs

Some of these are very clever and quite tough, so being all heart, I've given you first letter and length as a starter grin·

As ever, an asterisk represents a "real" hyphen.

One answer each for first 24 hours, please.

-1. "No Valentine's card for you this year," said Tom h----------.
-2. "I don't think we're going to be rescued," said Tom with a s------ f------.
-3. "It's time I started my own compost pile," said Tom t------ ---- a n-- l---.
-4. "Let's break out the Pogo Sticks," said Tom b-------.
-5. "I like the way the Brits forced men into their navy," said Tom, i--------.
-6. "You and Patricia deserve each other," said Tom m-------------.
-7. "Why, it's the baby Moses!" exclaimed Tom r------.
-8. "That's how Nixon avoided prosecution," said Tom r---------.
-9. "Tetrahedron, hexahedron, octahedron, dodecahedron," said Tom r-------- and s------.
-10. “Bill Clinton's got a divorce!” said Tom e-------------.

All good answers! bravo

I think I have, Bob. The word I was originally going to use (which was the one that sounded right (and ended in "edly")) wasn't a proper word so I has to use a slightly longer one. If that makes sense! think

I get what you're saying. I still haven't figured out the longer word. I'll be interested to see what it is. think
