The Forgotten....It Begins: My Opinion of the Game - 09/03/01 04:49 PM

What the CD Case says About the Game:

"It was a time of adventure, a time of romance and a time of magic. It is New Orleans, circa 1930. The sudden and unexplained disappearance of Richard Haliburton, the famous archaeologist and explorer, has brought you to the notorious French Quarter during the heyday of New Orleans voodoo.

Your search for the clues to Haliburton's disappearance will lead you into the heart of something much more sinister than you expected.

Discover the ties between you world and a series of unspeakably powerful artifacts that were crafted by an unknown race and locked in time..........

.......until now."

My Opinion of the Game:

I can tell you guys right now that this is a very beautiful game that I just finished playing. The music was definitely fitting for game set in the 1930's. The storyline propelled you into the game so much that it made you feel like you were a part of the game and you wanted to see what happened next.

The Plot
You start out in the study of your friend, Richard Haliburton's apartment. Or is it your own apartment? I'm not sure which one it is? Anyway, you receive a letter from Richard saying you are to find cards from a special crafted deck and you must also find him. These cards are crafted in a special way that you can travel back to ancient civilations with the risk of endangering your life, of course. After reading Richard's letter and getting items for your inventory you end up in a New Orleans hotel back in the 1930's. Thus your game begins.......

Overall, I have to say that the plot for this game is very engrossing. You have to find certain cards hidden within the hotel in order to rescue your friend Richard. I'd have to say that this plot is very appealing to me because it reminded my of the classic version of Myst. The soundtrack with the ghosts whispering in the abandoned hotel bar made it seem very fitting a game set in the 1930's.

However, I did find this game to be a little on the short side. Since, the idea of a sequel to the game went bust we're never gonna find out now if we ever rescue Richard or not. Oh well, it usually happens.

Overall, I give this game an A.

Thanks for letting me post my review guys. This is my first review so let me know what you guys think. I gotta stop typing, my fingers are getting tired.

HI Mac.....You did a darn good job! You might let us know, when you get a chance, what the technical makeup of the game is, if its mouse or keyboard driven, and whether its first or third person?

Yes, it is a shame that we will never learn more about Richard. That's no doubt the biggest drawback to playing this game.

Love, Witchen =O)

Excellent review, Mac. I also enjoyed this game and was disappointed that there wouldn't be further sequels. I was very disappointed that it was so short and that it kind of leaves you hanging - the only thing that keeps me from recommending this game.

Okay......just thought I'd add on to my review here. The game is definitely mouse-controlled and you play the game in first-person mode. There we go. Did I leave anything else out, Witchen?

I still think that's the worst adventure ever made, all was deja-vue, the graphics didn't raise even at the '95 standards and you got very little gameplay for your money...definitely a ripp-off...I cannot be the only one having this opinion.

Terrific review. Looking forward to more from you.
Enjoyed this game, yes it was too short. Desperately wanted to see the sequel come about, but have decided life is too short to 'cry over it'. Maybe someone else will come along in a couple of years and pick up where this one left off. Whatya think?
