For those wondering about the bonus gameplay, it's different from the norm. It's not found at the end of the game.

A moderator on Big Fish posted this:

Quote:
Please note that the bonus gameplay in this game is integrated in the main story.

One of the chapter is extended and the bonus play adds to the story.

So once you are playing the Collector's Edition, you will access the bonus at a certain chapter, not after the main gameplay.

Some folks might get to the end of this game and wonder why there wasn't a bonus section, so I thought I would point this out. wave

That's great info Marian! I am sure many would be questioning that, I know I would.

Ana, I'm wondering how many will get to the end of the game with no bonus game there and will think it's a glitch.

On the Big Fish forums, one of the game's developers posted this:

Quote:
We wanted to keep players in the mood of the story as they progressed to the bonus chapter, rather than taking them out of the atmosphere and plopping them down in unrelated 'extra' gameplay. That's why it's a seamless transition. We really hope everyone enjoys this style of bonus play!

It's an interesting decision. wave

this game is so well put together - it's elegant and smooth - and it's in New Orleans, my favorite city I havent been to

Marie Laveau seems to have hopped out of GK1 into this game. <g> Or am I remembering wrong?

I wonder if the game's makers did that on purpose as a small tribute to JJ or if voodoo and GK1 snuck into their subconscious and got into the game from there. <g>

Madame Laveau is a real person in New Orleans history.

"There lived a country woman not long ago
In New Orleans, Louisiana named Marie Laveau.
Believe it or not, strange as it seems,
She made a fortune selling voodoo and interpreting dreams."

That's from Papa Celestin's last recorded song.

Marie Laveau, Laveaus as there were at least two and probably more as the name packed a recognition wallop, was real. She figured in so many New Orleans and bayou tales that stuffing her in as a character became a stereotype, now dropped out of use for long enough to be fresh again.

Here we have another nut heroine who spends the night alone in a dilapidated mansion in bed under a ceiling which she says looks as if it's about to collapse.

Oh, eyeballs? I'll just stick them in this stone guy's empty eyesockets and admire the glow they emit as he plays a mournful tune on a phantom violin. Certainly nothing about that to make anybody jump out of her skin. Arrgh!

Aside from a heroine who seems to be dead between the ears, the demo was short. It lasted 42 minutes and it wouldn't have been that long if it didn't move so slowly first and last.

I still think Jane Jensen stuffed the name of Marie Laveau into the developer's minds. GK1 is the only computer game I know of in which she had a part, even if only in the dialogue.

Gil.

Couldn't resist this one. Best part? A magnifying glass to help find hidden objects. I've found it very helpful.

Sparkle, I am so glad you mentioned the magnifying glass. I had forgotten all about it and wasn't using it at all. It would be helpful at times so I'm glad you reminded me! happydance

Are you talking about the chapter in the saloon? If so, there is a bull horn hanging on the wall behind the billiard table. Let me know if this is not the chapter you are talking about, as I am playing the game but haven't finished it yet. smile

I'm still in the bank. Thus far, this is a superior casual game. The adventure game finding things elements are just tricky enough; a billiard ball puzzle made me feel like a fool, also good; and in general the people in charge of choosing HO objects both chose well thematically and also went to some trouble to name them accurately and cleverly, vinaigrette and domino come to mind as examples. The latter bamboozled me into admiration. When period piece western saddles have higher cantles, I'll be even more impressed.

Thank goodness, no snakes. If you live where there are some, you don't want to play games with them in scenes.

Only con: too many HOs. But, as I said, as HOs go these are top of the line.

Marian: The clue provided didn't help me at all with the billiard ball puzzle. But I just kept clicking randomly, and eventually it worked. Still don't know the secret. lol

I forgot to mention that I was well into the game and still had no idea that I had a spell and recipe book until I accidentally clicked in the wrong spot. I hope that is not a spoiler. I knew about the mortar and pestle, just not the book.
