This query is not related to the previous posts on this subject.

I have recently managed to get this game to run but have stalled at the first hurdle.
I cannot get the brooch to open in the first puzzle. I have got all the gems into position on the brooch but it does not seem possible for me to glue them down. I keep being told that I have to ensure that they are in the right place before gluing them. They all seem to be in the right place as far as I can tell but I do not seem to be able to open the brooch - I get a message concerning an inscription that I cannot make out.

Could some kind person please show me the error of my ways?

petert

BTW I do not seem to hear any talking in the game - only the subtitles.

I think it's probably safe to assume there are no voiceovers (someone please correct me if I am wrong).

Hopefully another player will be able to help you with the puzzle.

The walkthrough says:

Quote:
Go to table where you will fix brooch. Open book to last page to see design. Close book and use magnifying lens on front of brooch to reveal artist name....place gems on brooch and glue in place.

Try making sure you have done all of these steps - maybe one of the gems is in the wrong place?

There are no voiceovers . You will get a lot of silence. It is mostly onscreen talking.

Nope, still can't get it right.
I followed slavishly the W/T:-

Used the magnifying glass on the red diamond in the centre of the brooch and read the inscription, then put each gem into the correct place - I think. There seemed to be some logic in the placing of the gems - the top pink gem goes in at the top and then the green and pink seem to follow the same logical sequence, bearing in mind the position of the gems on the left of the brooch. In order to avoid being told repeatedly that I should make sure that the gem was in the right place, I found that if I click each of the gems in turn, then click it on the adhesive, then click the brush on the now opened top of the adhesive and then clicked the brush on the correct place on the brooch.
Then I expected the completed to 'open sesame' - and then nothing happened.

And this only the simple start of the game.

Methinks I should start doing jigsaws that have less than 3 pieces.

What am I doing wrong?

The brooch is the last one in the book. you have 4 dark blue ones, I think 6 pink ones, 6 dark green ones and 4 light green ones or vice versa for the green ). Make sure that you get the glue on the brush properly. When you put the glue on the gems she will make a comment such as " That is in tight"

I started all over again but had the same result. Every time I try to slick a gem down, I am told that 'I don't want to glue it until I am sure it is in the right place'. I have tried all the combinations of the dark blue (4) gems, but each time with the same result. I then tried putting each pink gem in all the possible places, then the green ones, then the light blue ones.

One query I have is that I have two magnifying lenses, one underneath the storage spaces and the other (long handled) one in the storage area. The latter one does dot work on the brooch but the other one reveals the name - Pont neuf, Ithink.

Thanks for trying to help.

Looking at the walkthrough:
- Get book and glue.
- Check the last page of the book to know the design of the brooch.
- Assemble it on the table.
- Use magnifying lens on front of brooch to know who made the brooch.
- Place gems on brooch.
- Glue them in place.
Also there is picture of the finished brooch in the walkthrough.

That did it!

I was using the stubby magnifying glass when I should have been using the long one. I was put off by the statement about not poking the glass with my finger. And also I failed to grasp that I had to look at the brooch on the table using the long glass, rather than using the stubby glass at the drawing of the brooch in the inventory box.

At least, that is my excuse for gross incompetence.

Thanks to all for your patience.

Anybody know why I cannot type in the translation of the hieroglyph clue.

I can type in "la" and I cannot get any further.

Do you have the Dummy book from the supply store? When you are typing in the letters, you have to hit enter each time, and it will move to the next letter. Hope that helps.
