Having had difficulties with Lighthouse on Virtual PC, I am now replaying the game on Collector's Dosbox version.
The game seems to run perfectly up until the problem that I encountered in the Fortress. It does not seem possible to beat the monster when trying to build the wooden bridge. I have timed his passage across the top of the wall from the left-hand tower to the right hand tower and it takes him about 15 seconds to complete the journey when I watch him all the way, but when I try to build the bridge, he appears at the gap about 6 seconds after I start. Not enough time to build the bridge, obviously.

Anyone got any ideas?

BU2 if the Dark Being is teasing the Monster down below. Return and try looking again. It may take several times, but you MUST see the Monster on the top tower walkways. When the Monster is at the top of the tower, and he is walking around, make sure that he walks all the way off the screen to the right. This is essential! When he walks off the scene to the right, immediately BU2, turn L, F through the dark doorway. Quickly toss down the 2 long boards you cut earlier, then toss down the short boards you cut in the carpenters room. Run across the bridge you've just created. IF you are NOT fast enough, the Monster will come and destroy your bridge and you will have to start all over cutting the boards and watching for him out the window! SAVE YOUR GAME when you successfully cross the bridge.

For some reason I had got it into my head that I had to commence the bridge building as soon as the monster started to move across from the left hand tower which turned out to be wrong, as you pointed out. I had to wait until he had finished at the right tower.

I just can't work out how I remembered the sequence of events so wrong. I was quite sure that I had previously had to wait until the monster started out to come to the Right tower, before I commenced going to build the bridge.
Curious thing, memory.
