Hi,everyone. I've played the first and second dreamfall games and loved them. I want to buy the dreamfall chapters but the reviews aren't so good, especially the sluggish performance. Is this game worth it? Are there any games comparable to it? Thaks, Louis.

I can't tell you if you'd like it or not. People like different things and are bothered by different things.

See if your computer meets the recommended (not minimum) specs -- especially for the video card.
That should give you an idea of how well it would run on your computer and whether it would lag.

Check a YouTube Let's Play if you want a better idea of what playing Dreamfall Chapters is like.

Louis, there have been criticisms, of course, but most of the reviews I've seen have been positive. duh I have seen complaints about 2 specific plot points, which I understand and actually agree with, but for me, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Personally, I enjoyed this game more than Dreamfall. As much as I loved Dreamfall, Chapters was very much what I wanted Dreamfall to be when it first came out. There is so much detail in the world(s), Zoe and Kian are far more developed as characters than they were in their original incarnations, and there is no fighting to worry about. I'd put it up there with the original TLJ (the final book and epilogue are what tipped it over from close second favorite to tie smile), though if you're looking for complicated puzzles, you won't find them here. I do think the puzzles are slightly more complex than they were in Dreamfall, however, and there was one in Book 3 involving bots that I especially liked. Nothing resembling TLJ's puzzles, though.

I agree with Jenny, checking out a YouTube let's play would be a good idea. That way you'd have a better idea if it would fit your personal tastes. Be advised, though, that they did change Book 1, so if you watch an older let's play, sections in Storytime as well as some dialogue later in the book have been cut. This is something I'm actually not happy about, as I thought the original version was much better. So just in case you do decide to get it and wonder why your version might be different, you'll understand the reason. smile

EDIT: In case you're wondering about the plot points, I'll keep them vague and behind spoilers. One was regarding
Click to reveal..
April's character
and the other
Click to reveal..
the identity of the prophet
. The latter actually bothered me more. Although I was bothered by the first as well, the result brought about another character I found fascinating, particularly toward the end. In fact, I would love to see a new game centered around this character, though time will tell if this will ever happen. smile

There were some things about this game I did not like but all of that comes under the heading of nit picking and personal preference. As for the overall game it is easily the best one I've seen in years when it comes to depth of multiple characters and story telling. In fact nothing has come close in a long time. I'd have to go back to the first TLJ and Syberia in regard to character development and story telling. Chapters is up there in rarefied air head and above what the majority of games achieve.

I will duck, but I sometimes wonder what the playing pedigree of some reviewers is. I am not saying that every negative review is by people that don't identify as adventure game players, but I am saying that some of them are.
If you liked the first two louis, I expect you will like this, regardless of individual opinions.
