I started playing Sherlock vs Jack The Ripper sometime last Summer, and like it but got hopelessly stuck on the gas leak puzzle where Sherlock has to fix it before getting a satchel hidden behind the pipes. I put the game aside and just restarted again about a week ago, still hopelessly stuck including trying to follow a couple of walkthoughs. I must have spend a total of 5 or 6 hours on this frustrating puzzle. I'm at the point now where I ether need a saved game, a walkthrough with very detailed instructions with screen shots of each step, or just quit playing.
The bad part about putting a game aside for so long is I've lost track of most of the story and who some of the characters are!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you have a more efficient mask already?

Click to reveal..
See that the gauge read 50 on the top release nozzle.
Place the gauge on all other holes and see that the rest are all reading zero pressure.
Place the gauge back on top middle hole of the top horizontal pipe. Right click (red arrow) the wheel valve right of hole to bring the pressure down to zero.
We need to have all the flow to the small vertical pipe at the bottom.
Place the gauge on top right hole of the large right pipe. Left click (green arrow) the wheel valve above it to bring the pressure to 50.
Place the gauge on bottom right hole. Double check that it reads zero. If not turn - right click (red arrow) the valve to make it so.
Now the bottom middle vertical pipe is the only source of gas. Place the gauge on bottom middle hole of that vertical pipe. Double check that it reads 100. If not turn the valves to make it so.
Place the pipes from inventory on the empty spaces. Connect the tip of the blowtorch on the release nozzle that has 100 pressure reading - the bottom middle one.
Weld to seal the joints of the 3 pipes. When done, place blowtorch at top left.
Left click (green arrow) on the top pipe and right click (red arrow) on top right valves to get gas to the welded pipes and have the pilot light on.

Check the settings on the screen capture her:

There are saves here.

Thanks, but it looks like this is going to join my list of abandoned games! It's been over 6 months since I got to this part, I've already tried the solution you sent, and I'm still at a total loss. (yes I have the mask)
The save game appears to be for the French version, though maybe it doesn't make any difference, but in any case I don't see the save game folder anywhere on my PC. (I downloaded the game via Steam, maybe that's the issue? Do they store the saved games remotely somewhere).

Anyhow, to be perfectly honest, I've pretty much lost interest in this game, sorry to say.

The saved games will be fine; it doesn't matter that it's a French website.

I'm sure someone could help you figure out where the saved games are located - but if the game isn't of interest to you now, that's a different matter.

Thanks, I managed to find another walkthrough with a more detailed explanation of the 'gas' puzzle so I managed to get past that spot! I'll continue on for now and see if the game keeps my interest! wink

Ok, stuck again, I'm trying to give the perfume (valarim) to Danny in a "nice bottle". I consulted the walkthrouh (which I seem to be doing a LOT in this game) Apparently I missing a Perfume Puffer, however when I look where the walkthough says I should find it, I see nothing there! Even using the spacebar to highlight were I can interact also shows nothing there. Am I missing something, or did I actually find a bug??

If I remember correctly, this item is tricky to find.
Go back to the abandoned building and where Finley is located. Go to his left side.
Look at the ground beside the barrel to hunt for that perfume puffer. Keep us posted.

I guess very tricky, as I still dont see it. I've looked under the stairs , around the barrels, etc.. no 'hot spots'. :(

Thanks, turns out I had it already, but it somehow put it in an open inventory slot on a 2nd page that I had to page down to see. Not sure why, since most of the inventory was empty.

I'm still debating rather or not to finish this game, as I'm finding myself stuck at every turn, relying about 85% of the time on the walktrhough. So at this point I'm not sure how much enjoyment I'm getting if all I'm doing is looking at the walkthough and going though the steps. (for example, I had no clue how to open the door to the cells, and now I have a message to decode, and I see the solution from the walkthough but have no earthly idea how that was solved, I don't see anything that would lead me to that solution!

I'm sorry that you're not having fun with this game.
If I remember correctly - The clues are there and finding them is part of the investigation.

Which message to decode?
