As soon as I get caught up they release new games in the series lol
If they didn't I'd have to find new series. Some appear to have actually ended.

I just finished this game, in the CE version. This is one game that is worth buying for the Bonus Game. It was substantial and a good add to the rest of the story. Buying the CE just for the Bonus Game may not be worth it to some. I never "use" any of the so-called extras, myself, nor have I ever needed the Game Guide. I like the extra play, when it is as supplemental as it was in this case.

This series has improved with time. This is the seventh one I know of, and I have played all but two (one would not load properly on my computer and cut off half the screen, another is in my "Maybe" list). They have progressed from what noted as "primitive, too easy, and HO-heavy," to being complex, and creative and with HO scenes not weren't too intrusive and were quite interactive. So I am glad I gave them another chance. It is spooky enough (evil spirit) to entertain those who like that sort of undertone, but not seriously creepy enough to make you nervous. You get knocked over the head and caught in an explosion, but no cheap shots ~ nothing suddenly jumps out at you. You know it is coming.

There are the usual tropes, but some creative ways to extricate yourself from your predicaments. There is some strategy involved, with a bit of "fighting" with the bad guy (by selecting the right graphics on screen), but it is not timed, not abusive, and you really can't lose. There is no balancing stuff, racing against the clock, ticking bombs to diffuse or any similar "make work" sorts of things. No music puzzles.

The art is well done and detailed. Everything makes sense and is contextual (you aren't searching for a skateboard in an HO scene down in the bottom of a gold mine - ha ha). You have to assemble various "tool kits" from time to time, always related to the action. There are so many clues as to what you need to do next that nothing ends up being really a huge challenge. There are no sliders. There are a couple of tangram-type puzzles that are wonderful. Of course, you always could skip a stiff puzzle.

No options to turn off pop-ups, but I didn't notice them as being particularly intrusive. Maybe they are getting the word?

Reenie - thanks for the nudge.

I had done the demo, and put it aside. After reading your strong review, I went back and bought the game and glad I did.
Only had to peek at the guide once so far, for a puzzle I didn't understand. After looking at the help, STILL did not understand how it worked, and ended up skipping that one. Anyway, I'm about halfway through, and will probably finish it today and tomorrow.

I have encountered that incomprehensible puzzle situation in several games lately. I'm not sure whether my brain is aging or the designers don't have it together; prefer to believe the latter. ha ha I will tinker around with a baffling puzzle for quite some time before giving up. It is the stubborn mule in me. wink

If you have the SE version of the game, you can't fall back on an on-board Game Guide, but have to go looking for a video or WT help on line. If you have the CE, you can resort to a peek at the Game Guide for a hint, but all too often there is no Hint, only an image of the final Solution ~ which doesn't help at all, since you still have no idea how they GOT there. It is disappointing, since I buy these games primarily to indulge in the puzzle-solving aspect and hate to have to give up and skip one. I hope they will do a little better in this regard as these games continue to develop into something more than a plain HO game.

I'm glad you are enjoying it, anyway. I thought it was a super game, otherwise. happydance

I finished the main game yesterday, and the bonus section today.
Folks, if you fell into the same trap I did, that is - finishing the demo and saying "ho-hum" and moving onto another demo, think again. Spend a few bucks and give this one a chance.

Those who have heard me rant before, have heard me say again and again - it's the STORY that matters.
I've been stressing that as far back as the MYST days, long before there were such things as casual or HO games. But here I go again. It is the coherent storyline that holds a good game together. I don't mind that they included a "wtf" puzzle, I'm happy to skip it and move on. It was only that one, all the others were possible to solve.

Oh - and surprise - I defeated the evil spirit for the final time and fully expected to see the credits roll, but no - there was more. They took the trouble to wrap up the story's loose ends. High marks for this one. I agree with Reenie.

That is great information about the game. A big congratulations to those involved in creating the storyline.

I am really looking forward to playing this!
