One of the best adventures of the Golden Age of 1990s, "The Curse of Monkey Island", became available today in Steam and in GOG !

Thanks, Iurii smile

This is the only Monkey Island game I don't have a tweaked copy of so I will be getting it grin

It is the weakest of the trilogy, though.

Ron Gilbert was not involved and it shows !! yes

I didn't feel that it was the weakest game of the trilogy; I thought it was fantastic overall. It would be hard for me to pick my favorite. Having said that, there was also Escape From Monkey Island, which although I liked it, would probably be my pick for the weakest one (but still worth playing). Maybe we will eventually see that game on GOG as well.

Well, how many ever agree, Marian, when it comes to game likes and dislikes ?? laugh

I thought Escape from Monkey Island was absolutely awful and never considered it worthy of being called part of the series. So there I go again !! lol
But there are lots of folk who will have very different opinions to mine and that's just how it should be hamster

Thanks for the info, Iurii! I picked it up, even though I already own the original disk version. grin They also apparently have Maniac Mansion now - https://www.gog.com/game/maniac_mansion. This was one of the first adventure games I ever played. I wishlisted it for now, as I have the original "floppy disk" version that I play through Scummvm. Since it looks as though they have the Commodore version included, I may want to pick it up in the future, as that was the first version I ever played, and it would be fun to experience it again. thumbsup

I agree with Mad that Curse was the "weakest" of the first 3, but not by much. I did think it was a lot of fun, possibly the funniest of the group. And it introduced Murray, who is probably my favorite character in the series. grin Escape was my least favorite of the Monkey Islands overall, but I still liked it. I really enjoyed the Telltale Monkey Island as well, it's in constant competition with MI2 as my favorite. I thought it had a great story, and I really enjoyed the new characters, particularly Morgan Le Flay and Winslow. thumbsup

So I, of course, have never played ANY Monkey Island games but I have Monkey Island Special Edition Collection which includes The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and Tales of Monkey Island.

Is The Curse of Monkey Island something different than what is on these DVD's?

I guess I better go pick up the trilogy on GOG since I have only played the first one and that was when it first came out.

The Curse of Monkey Island game is #3 in the Lucasarts series of Monkey Island games and is entirely separate from the above.

Thanks Marian. What are the 3 games if you don't mind me asking?

I am going to purchase this game right now as I can get a discount to "complete the series". (I have those other games on DVD as well as at GOG.)

The Lucasarts ones are:

Secret of Monkey Island
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge
Curse of Monkey Island
Escape from Monkey Island

Then later on, Telltale did the Tales of Monkey Island. smile

Cool. Thank you so much Marian! I guess I would just need Escape from Monkey Island then to be complete. wave2

"The Curse of Monkey Island" is one of the best adventure games ever for me! Definitely on par with the first game, and way better than the second (even if it was made by Ron himself) and the fourth.

Let's see if it is the hint that Disney could bother themselves with creating 'Monkey Island 6' and/or 'Maniac Mansion 3' smile

I still consider the second the best in the series, even though the third is the funniest. Then again, I don't favor the Monkey Island games the way I do the Gabriel Knight series or The Longest Journey series, so maybe my opinion shouldn't "count" in the same way. lol

My favorite Lucas Arts game by far is still Grim Fandango. That was an excellent game. praise

Ron Gilbert was the creative genius of the Monkey Island games praise

My favourite is the second, with the first coming very close behind smile

I am one very happy bunny. joy
I'm always droning on about there not being enough new games like this. Thrilled to bits I can get to play this one again.
Maybe there's hope for the Discworld trilogy to be rereleased now!!!!!!

Discworld rights have now belonged to Sony for years - and when they acquired them they announced they were not interested in the games frown

I just bought "Curse" from GOG, playing it now, and enjoying it even more than before. I have "only" 125 games in my GOG Library now, and that's from GOG, many more from STEAM as well.
