I started this game the other night. Got stuck and gave it another try today but cannot get unstuck.

I am still right in the beginning. The first couple of clues are strait forward. I found a scroll and some books, used the scroll on a table and the books on a shelf which opened a door to a (second) downward staircase. Down there I listened to somebody talk about hiding the books and key and looked at a book with a picture of a key on it. That book has to do with an opening in a wall on the first landing (down the first set of stairs). However, that is where the clues stopped being helpful to me. I don't know what to do with the five white buttons in the wall opening. They each go in 3 positions, but that's all I know.

In inventory, I have one book that I haven't found any place for that I can use or look at it. It has kind of an M on it with a line going up in the middle section.

That's it.

I did read that you can die or dead end yourself in this game so I'm not sure if I did something wrong already or missed something or just not getting the clue for this puzzle.

Can you tell me anything based on this information?

Thanks.

See if UHS Hints is of any help with the push button puzzle.

Thanks Jenny! I had to go to hint 7 of 11 before I finally understood which part of the book was the clue. Duh! It doesn't seem like it should have been that hard. smile

I'm just wondering though, how will I ever know if I've just dead ended myself or if I just don't know what I'm supposed to be doing?? duh

Oldbroad check out the 2 walkthrus on the GB Walkthru Forum if you get stuck. I remember playing this game years ago. It was fun.
Good Luck and Enjoy! wave

Thanks Kaki's Sister. I'm aware of the walkthroughs but usually see more than I want to see when I look at them, so I try to get hints if possible and then try to work out the solution from there.

I am enjoying the game so far.

ARGH!

I was sailing along just fine after my above problem but then I hit a "game over". At first I was thinking it was just the end of the game but it seemed to abrupt so I looked at the walkthrough just enough to see what I did wrong. Tried some that night to proceed further with no luck. Took a break from the game yesterday but have been trying half the day today to get somewhere in it, again with no luck. I even looked at the walkthrough and the UHS hints. Seemed to be doing what I was supposed to be doing but something was nagging at me.

Argh is for 2 things. Getting lost over and over in the jungle even though I tried to follow the directionals in the walkthrough (not helpful to me) and
an inventory mix up. Since I can not tell what the H the stuff in my inventory is supposed to be, it turned out that I had a radio with me instead of a portable transporter because when I was trying to get the last crystal, I used both items together (not knowing what exactly they were and what I was trying to do). What is supposed to happen is you use the radio to make a high frequency sound to break the glass in front of the crystal and then you no longer have the radio in your inventory. Because I used the 2 items, the radio stayed in my inventory but I lost the transporter. I only figured that out by replaying that part of the game and NOT using both items (along with the walkthrough telling me what the darn items were).

I'm now back on the mother ship at the end of the game but taking this break trying to decide if I should just wait until tomorrow to finish it up since I am a bit frustrated right now (mostly from being lost in the jungle). Was hoping maybe typing this out would help me.

Thanks! woozy

Thanks Marian. I played my Match 3 game for awhile then went back to finish up The Crystal Key. I did get "game over" 4 or 5 times before I figured it out, but I did figure it out! Next The Crystal Key 2.

This is an old game! What system are you playing it on? I don't see it on GOG. I have Crystal Key 1 and 2 on CD but I'm running Windows 8.1 now. I'd love to give both of them another go since I know I've forgotten everything about it now. lol

Did you ever stop to think and then forget to start again?

I played it on Windows XP. I know that All Video seller of old games with installers for newer systems has the first game on his Ebay store though I don't see it on his website store.
