The end of Tell Tale Games is nearing. So sad. I wish they would have just stayed making 'Sam and Max' and 'WAllace and Grommit'. Those were such fun games!

Thanks, Ana. I was just reading about this and was surprised and disappointed. I remember that they had some layoffs a while back, but somehow I thought they had recovered. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

I don't think the new CEO did it any good. Too many extremely expensive licences to pay for.

"Wallace and Grommit" and "Puzzle Agent" would be my favorites.
Their "Sam and Max" series was good too.
I didn't care for their version of Guybrush at all.
"Back to the Future: The Game" was not great but not bad either.

Their later games had QTE/choice-focussed gameplay that wasn't my idea of adventure, but I thought they were making those because people who didn't like the more "classic" adventure games liked them and that they were making money off them.

I forgot Puzzle Agent, those are my three favorites as well.
I did not care for Back to the future as much.

I have not had any interest in the latest offerings at all, but i thought others did. Apparently they lost money on all except the first season of the WAlking Dead. frown

They also got sued by their former CEO
https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/15/17467166/telltale-lawsuit-kevin-bruner

Also according to the Verge
Quote:
Staff were informed of the layoffs today and were given roughly 30 minutes to leave the building, according to one source.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/21/17888162/telltale-games-layoffs-the-walking-dead

None of the employees who were fired received severance pay.
Very sad for those employees and fans of their games.

25 employees remaining to finish up a game for Netflix.

Yup, read tons of articles. Lots of tweets too from employees. It's shaking up lots of developers too.

I never played and don't have Wallace and Grommit or Back to the Future. I do have the Puzzle Agent games but haven't played them yet. I did enjoy Sam and Max quite a bit though.

I have also purchased some of the other games (Walking Dead, Batman, something else) but haven't tried playing them yet. I bought them fairly cheap as I know they are not exactly my type of game. I did not purchase the last season of Walking Dead since it was not cheap enough for me and now they are saying it will not be completed. I wonder how that's going to go over with people.

It is terrible that there was no notice given to the employees. That's the pits!!!

The Walking Dead Season 4 was shaping up to be one of their best games and was my personal game of the year so far. I really hope they can at least finish this, but it doesn't sound good. That's terrible news regarding their employees as well. sad

I went to the site to download the games I bought while I still can, I'll probably copy them to discs. I played most of them already but I should keep copies in case I want a repeat.

Wow, I feel for the developers who were kicked to the curb due to what sounds like an out of control business model. That really hurts when you dump all your creativity and skill into a project and then end up getting the short end of the stick. frown

While I wasn't a big fan of the Tell Tale games, I've always thought that they've had an exceptionally talented crew. "Were given roughly 30 minutes to leave the building" and no severance pay sounds extremely harsh. They deserve much better than this. It's not particularly inspiring for the remaining developers working on the Minecraft game either.

THe 30 minutes to leave the building is not so surprising. Generally, when letting someone go, they shutoff your computers while you called away from your desk and then you are allowed back in your space to get your belongings and leave. The very last thing a company wants is a disgruntled employee in the building or having any access to the data.
I've worked in plenty of offices and that was standard operating procedure.

Good! I wonder if the CEO's tweet is still around where he said he wasn't closing, and he plans to be back. I can't find where I saw it now.

This is such sad news. I admit I lost interest in their games once they went away from traditional AGs - not remotely interested in TWD - but they had a clear direction and stuck to it, so you have to respect that - and of course thousands of players loved that style of game.

The stuff going around on Twitter about this is mind-boggling... people see a tragedy and decide to vent their own petty or downright stupid bigotry about female devs or whatever their gripe is as if it's a personal victory of their own. frown

Isn't it just amazing how toxic the environment can be on social media, CaptainD? I recall a time the GameBoomers for mocked online for not allowing and banning posters that attempted the same things. I am glad we never tolerated it and still don't. I have no problem deleting anyone that trolls and posts inflammatory remarks.

Here comes more Layoffs for BigFish. sad
