it calls to put it in 6- by 9- by 2-inch casserole dish, i do not have one do i have to buy it, and 3 pounds red potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/4-inch thick, is that hard to do. cool blackkitty catrub lab puppy food network

What size casserole dishes do you already have? One that's close in size will likely work.

As far as the potatoes are concerned, just time consuming as long as you have a potato peeler.

The dish looks delicious.

The 8x8 should work. How deep is it?

My question was, how deep is your 8x8 casserole? Is it 2 inches deep?

And are you asking if it's hard to slice potatoes? Um... no. Although I have gotten lazy and do it in my food processor now!

Six by nine is a very odd size. Good luck finding one if you decide to buy. Or look for a foil one.....it would be considerably cheaper.

I think your 8x8 casserole will work just fine. The dimensions are close enough and according to the recipe the baking part isn't that crucial to success. Glad you posted a link to the recipe. It helps us figure out what you need to know.

Family, it's not hard to slice potatoes 1/4 inch thick. If you find that you are doing a lot of recipes that call for precision slicing, you can buy a mandoline. A good one will let you select the width of the cut you need. Amazon has a good selection. I have one that I use when I need veggies to be uniformly cut and I need a lot of them. As long as you use the food guard, they can be a real time saver.

I LOVE my mandolin from Germany. I use it all the time for smaller slicing jobs.

I don't think this is the sort of thing you want to slice potatoes. It's a chopper. It will just chop the potatoes into small pieces, not slices. Was it in a box? Should have directions on the box or inside. Really pretty simple. Put whatever you want to chop under the tool and push down on the top.

Like Sparkle says, that's for chopping things like onions. It won't slice. This is a mandolin for slicing, although there are tons of other ones out there.

Here's a selection of mandolins on Amazon. The pictures show how to use it.

Honestly family, you don't really need any fancy tools. A good sharp knife will do the job. It will just take time. The mandoline is a great tool, but I personally don't like it because the blades are extremely sharp. I have a friend who cut off part of a finger while using one. I'm just a bit too clumsy to take the risk.

A food processor will slice and dice. You just have to change out the part.
