There is a walkthrough on GameBoomers here. Maybe that will help you out.

It sounds like you are doing fine. This can be a tricky game and some parts of it are timed. Just use the walkthrough as a guide and it should work out okay.

I think it's always helpful to look at more than one walkthrough.

I would use the one you already had, the one I linked you to on GameBoomers, and UHS Hints also has one here.

I remember your having some technical problems the last time you played this game, but I don't remember now the exact nature of the problem and/or the solution.

If it's a cutscene, try hitting the space bar when it starts and see if that gets you past it.

Otherwise, I would post your difficulty over in the Glitches forum to see if they have any advice for you.

I seem to remember that there are only six save spots, yes, which hardly seems like enough, but I guess it has to be or else no one would have finished the game. smile

According to the walkthrough, the fake register is in the upstairs study, which you go to after the parlor.

Did you look at the part of the walkthrough about the parlor to see if that helps you?

THE PARLOR

Turn back and enter the green draped door ahead of you. You'll be facing a set of double wooden doors. Turn left and walk to the corner to examine the empty sarcophagus. Sherlock remarks that it looks like Momphis XI seems to have gone for a stroll. Now how likely is that? Note the sand. When you back out of the picture, look right to examine the wall mounted rifle, then go forward, turn right and click on the lavender colored draperies to reveal another door. Let's continue our examination of this room first, however. Look down in front of the sofa and pick up the note from Elizabeth. She didn't tell you she'd studied archeology did she? Wonder why she wouldn't mention that?

Turn left and walk toward the fireplace. Examine the mounted lion's head over the mantle. A hunting trophy, no doubt. Continue left and look at the large corner cabinet. You'll find that you are, as yet, unable to force it open. Turn left. Walk to the opposite wall and look down in the dark, open cupboard to pick up the PIPE CLEANER.

Look up and click on any one of the displayed pipes to hear that Sherlock and Lord Montcalfe have a love of ornate pipes in common. Nothing else to do here. Look up and click on the picture of Lord Montcafe. Sherlock muses that it is strange that none of his archeological finds can be viewed down on the ground floor. When you back out of the picture, look at the large wall framed family tree, which it appears, Lord Montcalfe has vandalized with some particularly virulent comments. Take particular note of Sherlock's remarks about Jonathan Parkey ("thief, murderer.)"

Swing around toward the entry door. Look at the pictures on the wall beside the door, of Montcalfe in Egypt. Leave the room. Turn right and go forward once. Turn right and enter,

THE UPSTAIRS STUDY

I don't think so, as you get the register after this section of the walkthrough. I only mentioned it because you said you didn't have it.

If you scroll down the page for this walkthrough here - it shows you the slider puzzle solution as well as a picture of what it looks like.

As I said before, this game had its technical problems for you the last time you played. The only advice I can find online is that of hitting the space bar when a cut scene starts if the game crashes during that time. Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you. You could always try posting about your technical problems over on the Glitches forum to see if they have any suggestions for you. A lot of people on the Steam forum discussion for the game find that they encounter technical problems running it. It's an older game and seems to sometimes have problems running on newer operating systems.

The walkthrough says this about the second stick in the wine cellar:

Quote
Return to the cot and lift it again against the wall. Use your hammer to break open the lid and extract a small Anubis STATUE. Was this statue the one stolen from the ambassador as chronicled in the newspaper article? Turn around and, facing the stoned-up doorway, pan down to pick up a second STICK.

And by the way, here is another link to a walkthrough of the game that I think you will find most helpful:

As long as you have other saved games as well, I can't see how that could be a problem.

You just have to keep trying, I guess. Just keep reloading the save right before the timed sequence. I would also follow the walkthrough very carefully at this point.

You did finish this game before, so you know that it can be done. smile

If you absolutely can't get past it, there are saves you can try at
http://www.nicouzouf.com/en/?id=themysteryofthemummy

I'm not sure if they work with your version of the game.
They seem to have used a disc version.
Something to try though, if you can't get through.
I remember this part of the game was a huge pain.

This kind of thing is why I start some games and don't finish them.

Looking at the walkthrough, the part where you are doesn't appear to be timed.

I would suggest that you follow the walkthrough closely that you can find here. Just start at the beginning of the sequence that you are attempting and it should help you out.

I would look over the walkthrough again here. It gives you explicit directions as to what to do in this part of the game.

I would suggest that you go back and look over the walkthrough carefully. There's no way for me to know exactly what you have done/haven't done up to this point, so that is unfortunately the only advice that I have to offer.

Have you tried looking at a walkthrough video on YouTube for this part? Both walkthroughs I looked at refer to it as the "center urn" and give no more description than that, so I have no way of giving any more detail about it.

Yes, the timer spoiled the game.
Also, if you don't see a "center urn" you may not be where the walkthrough expects you to be.
Maybe there's a close-up that puts an urn clearly in the center?
Best thing is to check a video walkthrough if you can't find it, like Marian suggested.

I don't know where the door latch is because I haven't played the game and the walkthrough is not specific about this. Maybe look at a walkthrough on YouTube if you can't locate it.

I think so. But after you get through the next section, there is another timed sequence according to the walkthrough.

thanks, with just a few save spots it hard to keep going once you die. i'm at the part where i put the brahman seal in the urn ,i saved it there but as i turn to click out of there and go to the treasure room just befor i click on the latch I die ....so it looks like i need to find a save game befor this part so i can keep going ! now that is going to be hard.

As Jenny pointed out earlier in this thread, there are some saved games here. I don't know whether they would work for you or not, but it is something to consider.

First you need to download the saved game that you need from the website that I linked you to; choose to download the file and save it somewhere where you will be able to find it, such as your desktop or in your downloads folder. The next step is figuring out where the game files are located on your hard drive. What Windows operating system are you running the game on?

Now you need to locate the game folder on your hard drive - it might be under the name of the game, or sometimes it might be the company name (in this case, Frogwares). See if you can figure out where it is.

I am going to be gone for several hours today so if I don't reply to one of your posts right away, hopefully someone else will see this and can help you out further.

I am still busy and am thinking that it would probably be better for you to post over in Glitches, as this is a technical discussion anyway that doesn't really belong in this forum. Tell Jenny that you are trying to download and install a saved game for Mystery of the Mummy and she should be able to guide you through the process. Tell her you have the saved game downloaded to your desktop and need to know what to do next. wave

You can open zip files using Windows Explorer.
Right-click the file and choose Extract All.

If you want a 3rd party program for unzipping files, I'd recommend 7-zip, which is free.
