If you like crime dramas or ghost stories or just curious about Russian television try "Ghost in the Curved Mirror" on Amazon. The dialogue is Russian with English subtitles. Only 4 episodes long I guess we would call it a mini-series.
After death threats appear on her bathroom mirror and an attempt is actually made on her life, someone pushes her down the stairs. the owner of a mansion turned into a boarding house/hunting lodge, hires two private detectives to find out who among her family (daughter, son, daughter-in-law) and paying guests is trying to murder her.. While she does not believe in ghosts others claim the house is haunted, by a young woman who drowned in a pond on the property. So the two detectives show up pretending to be journalists writing an article on haunted houses.
There are many suspects:
Her adult daughter, whom she treats like a servant
Her adult son who has a weak heart but doesn't like being treated like a child
Her daughter-in-law who goes out of her way to antagonize her
Her doctor who left a hospital in St. Petersburg to become a country doctor and wont say why, claims she cannot talk about her patients but never the less tells people she's hallucinating
A lodger who has secret meetings with her daughter
A former police officer who failed to catch her husbands killer and lays flowers at the grave of the drowned woman
The ghost of the woman who drowned in 1992 (no one claims to see the client's husband who was murdered by gangsters at the same time)
At first neither of the two private detectives belief in ghosts and Makar comes to the conclusion that their client is just a delusional old lady and talks about returning to Moscow. But Sergey sees a white figure reflected in a mirror and starts to believe in ghosts. Makar thinks Sergey is cracking up and stays to prove to his partner there is no such things as ghosts, that either their client is suffering from paranoid delusion no one is out to kill her or someone is trying to kill her and using the ghost story as a cover.
The detectives original case is solved at the end of episode 2 but as they try to leave in episode 3 things take a dark turn. A woman vanishes and two people are brutally murdered. Eveything leads back to the occupants of the boarding house.
Was there actually a ghost?
No just a guilty conscious of someone who committed murder 22 years ago and got away with it , the suppressed memories of a someone who witnessed the murder , and a greedy scheme by someone who had no idea of the first murder but hopped to use the idea of a ghost to get away with their own murder plot.
