So far today, I've received 3 phone calls saying something about my (non-existent) Apple I Cloud account. I hope I didn't goof by answering the 3rd time. I held until somebody came on the line and I told them to remove my number from their scam calling list immediately and that I don't have Apple anything. There was a pause between their recording and an actual voice, probably while they were setting up their scamming equipment. I hope that didn't give them even more ammo of some kind, or that they won't call even more often just to bug me! I am SO sick of scammers!!!!

Called again! Fourth time today.

If your service is through cable, you can use NOMOROBO filtering service.

If not, it's good to have a caller ID service that allows you to see who's calling. If you have an answering machine or voice mailbox and don't recognize the number, let it go to the voicemail or answering machine.

When you answer a scam call, you are verifying that it's a valid number and setting yourself up for further calls. Additionally, some calls will leverage your phone line so it's best never to wait on hold, be transferred or even talk to someone. I know it's tempting, but if it really is a service you have, you should be getting emails or mail correspondence. Very few legit companies will call you to verify your information or inform you of an offer. In most cases those are Phishing calls, trying to get your info for identity theft scams.

Hi Trail. There was "suspicious activity" on my account. (I don't have an account.) I don't have cable. I do usually just let things go on the answering machine but I get really tired of having to get up to hear if it's a call I need to answer only to find it is some scammer. I knew I shouldn't have answered it but I couldn't help myself. Like I said before, I hope I didn't goof up by answering.

Answering just tells them there is a live human on the end of the call and now they may call even more. I have a set of 4 portable phones. One is on my computer desk, one is in the living room, the main one is in the sun porch and one is upstairs. I never ever answer unless it is someone I know. I just look at the Caller ID. I am probably going to get rid of the land line and just use our cell phones this year. We get 10 - 15 telemarketer calls every day. I hate to do it, but I'm tire of paying $600 a year for basic service just so the telemarketers can start calling at 9 am and stop at 9 pm.

The best thing you can do is report these calls to your state Attorney General's Office. Most states have an on-line form you can fill out. The actually use these complaints to tract how bad it is and sometimes even get fines. I've had two of my complaints end up in $250,000 fines... my AGO send me a letter about them.

I just have the one phone and it is in the kitchen where I am usually not. I have been looking into buying a new phone with an extra handset but it has to work without a phone jack. I don't have any other working jacks in my house. I am eyeing one at Amazon because sometimes this phone loses it's charge even though it's been sitting on the cradle not being used.

Since I am home most of the time now, I notice just how many of these telemarketers and scam calls we get every day. I've never reported any but there was one I read about that got a huge fine that I'm certain must have been one that was calling here every day 4 or 5 times a day. It was regarding medicare and braces (like back or knee braces). It was not too long ago and I haven't had any of those calls since shortly before I read the article. If they would only call once a day it wouldn't bother me so much. It is the ones that call all day long, I get annoyed with.

I also get several no talkers a day.

All you need is one phone jack. I have the main one plugged into that and the other three just need an electrical outlet and that's it. It puts a phone in every room if you need them. I set up one with 5 handsets when my mother was still living at home, so she even had one in the bathroom in case she needed it.

Your old one probably just needs a new battery.

We did not change our phone number when we moved from California . I am glad we didn’t now when we get a 408 call and no name is associated with it we never answer. We know it is a telemarketer!
