I think it's just too old. You also may have a version of Office that is no longer supported. End of Support for Office 2007 and previous versions was a couple of years ago. You can try this patch, but it probably won't help.

That's not what the patch is for.
I don't know if there's an Outlook patch that would allow it to connect, but if Microsoft stopped supporting your version of Outlook, then created a security patch that interfered with Outlook, it may not work any more.

Are you sure it's not the email server that's at fault?
Did you check to see if your email service is having any outages or down time?

I can't even get into Outlook to work off line. Most definitely Microsoft does not support my version of Outlook. It could be the email server but I don't know how to check for it.

I'd say it's time to switch to a different supported email program on a supported computer. There are tons of options and I use several of them. You may be able to export your contacts from the old Outlook and import into a new program.

Depending on your version of Outlook, you would go find Export and create a .csv file (comma separated file). In your new email program, you would find Import and then select that .csv file. I found this just in case you have Office 2003.

In Outlook, on the File menu, click Import And Export.
In Choose an action to perform, click Export to a file, and click Next.
In Create a file of type, click to select a format for the file you want to export - Comma Separated Values (Windows) - and click Next.
In Select folder to export from, click the folder you want to export (the Contacts folder), and click Next.
In Save exported file as, type the path and file name for the file you want to export (note this location so that you can find later), and click Next.
Confirm the action and then click Finish.
