I find microwaving is a good option. I put bacon on top of a paper towel on a microwave safe dish and cover the bacon with another paper towel. Start with about 1 minute per slice. You can always add time if bacon isn’t done to your satisfaction. Keep checking until it’s how you like it. And there’s always the tried and true skillet method. The key is to fry the bacon until it’s as done as you like it and drain on paper towels. It will be crisp when most of the fat is cooked away.

I use a bacon cooker with a lid and do it in the microwave. How long you cook it depends on how thick it is. Thinner bacon takes less time - like maybe 45 seconds per slice and thicker bacon about 1 minute per slice. It also depends on how cold the bacon is. Bacon does not become crisp until it sits on paper towels for a minute or so like Sparkle says. You really don't want it too "crispy" as that means it's been cooked too long.

When I'm doing large amounts of bacon... like the 15 pounds or so I do for the breakfast I cater every December at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch - I do it in the oven. I use cookie sheets that have an edge... sometimes called jelly roll pans... so the grease doesn't run off. I line the pans with parchment paper and lay the bacon strips on it. Heat the oven to 350° and place in the oven for about 10 - 15 minutes. Again it depends on how thick the bacon is. It crisps up after you take it out and place on paper towels to drain the grease. Nice thing about this method is there is no cleanup - just throw the parchment paper away after it cools down.

Yes. The oven method is the best way to cook large amounts.

I do smoked turkey bacon in the microwave per Sparkle's method (it takes more like 45 seconds in the microwave) and it is delicious. It also isn't greasy or fatty like regular bacon.

I just cooked an entire pound of bacon in the microwave and sliced up 4 huge heirloom tomatoes from the garden. Hubby and I indulged in multiple BLT sandwiches! Yum!

I do my bacon in the oven now. I do it at 400 degrees for like 20 minutes - but I have thicken bacon. It turns out crispy and good. I am so jealous of you Drac that you have tomatoes! I have a bunch of plants and they don't have hardly any green tomatoes on them! I think this will be a sparse year for me for canning. Sheesh. Dunno what I did wrong - other than the crappy weather we had here in June - but, no tomatoes? That is crazy. but, the corn guy is selling his corn and that is a bonus. so, we can have at least a meal of corn on the cob.

Our weather was awful too. Usually, the cause of nice plants and not very many tomatoes is too much nitrogen. I use a tomato fertilizer that is higher in the 2nd and 3rd numbers - phosphorus and potassium.

Oh boy.....now I crave bacon......

If I'm cooking a lot of bacon I use a jelly pan and bake it in the oven too, but I put the bacon on crumpled foil, so the foil has lots of ridges and the fat drains away from the bacon as it cooks.

You must do a lip all the way around the edge of the foil first to contain the fat, then it makes for an easy cleanup after as you simply throw the foil with all the fat in it away.

That's why I like using the parchment paper! Just crumple it up and throw it away. This is a really good piece on different ways to do it in the oven.

I guess I'm in the minority, I only make bacon in a frying pan. I like mine super crispy and hubby gets his taken out sooner than me.

I absolutely LOVE crisp bacon!! I rarely fry it these days because it just takes too much time and energy watching over it and it spits all over. I had been microwaving it for years but recently tried the oven and found it is really the easiest method. I used aluminum foil and when I was finished cooking I made a little pouring spout in the corner of the foil and poured the grease into a bottle/jar/can that was going in the garbage. Maybe I will try the parchment paper next time. (Thanks Drac!)

Years ago I had a male friend who would sometimes take me to Shoney's for a Sunday breakfast buffet. I would get a variety of food my first trip but then I would go back another 4 times or so just for bacon and fruit. He used to get embarrassed. Oh well!

I used to use one of my cast iron skillets for bacon, but find the microwave or the oven actually gives better results. The advantage to the pan is you can take hubby's out sooner, Ana!
