Below are a number of clues, in no particular order (as ever evil ). String the answers to roughly half the clues them together in the right order, and you’ll find the answers to the rest of the clues reading backwards. Being all heart, I’ve given you the length of the string that you’re looking for.

An example (8 letters) :

Resting place
Unsullied

ERUPTBED (erupt + bed, debt + pure backwards)

-1. (18 letters)
Builders tool
Chronological schedule of events
Distinct individuality or identity of a person or thing
Give out

Mammal of the order Chiroptera
Muscular and fatty tissue

-2. (28 letters)
Be indecisive

Departed
Heavy metal band
Inamorata
Mutiny
Pouchlike part in an animal or plant
Repulsive
Transform from solid to liquid state
Wallach, actor

-3. (40 letters)

Aquatic eukaryotic organisms

Conceal from view
Cracker or toast with savoury topping
Graphical image that represents a person
Long depression in the land surface
Made changes to
Mediterranean island in Tuscany
Mistakes
Music characterised by spoken lyrics
Open space in a woodland
Proctor and Gamble detergent
Remedy for all problems
Take over from

The moon is actually more useful than the sun since the moon gives us light at night when it's dark. The sun only gives us light during the day when it's already bright out.
