Just downloaded Timelapse from Gog - must say that that is a user-unfriendly site - and I have no idea how to proceed. There does not appear to be anything like a manual available, which should tell me about the controls and how to save and load.
Is there some sort of instruction page that can be accessed which help me. I found that CTRL Q is quit but nothing else.

Can anyone help with a Child's Guide?

It should come with a manual.
Check the game folder.

Esc Key - Skips the current animation
Spacebar - Opens the Timelapse Functions and Options screen
Arrow Keys - Turn left, right, forward, or back
A,D,W,S - Turn left, right, forward, or back
Z,C - Turn around, to the left or right
Ctrl + 0-9 - adjust ambient sound volume, 0: minimum, 9:maximum

Ctrl + F1/F2 - Adjust brightness, F1: Brighter, F2: Darker
Ctrl + F3/F8 - Adjust color balance
F3: more red
F4: less red
F5: more green
F6: less green
F7: more blue
F8: less blue
Ctrl + F9 - Reset color

Ctrl + Q - Quit
Ctrl + S - Save
Ctrl + O - Open previously saved game
Ctrl + J - view journal
Ctrl + C - take pictures with camera
Ctrl + P - view photo album
Ctrl + G - Display the Gene Pod Inventory system

Of course if the game is using ScummVM controls instead of the original controls, the above probably won't work and you should try F5 to bring up a menu instead.

According to the download page here - right under the game description, it says that a manual is included. As Jenny said, look in the game folder. If you downloaded it through GOG Galaxy, look in the goodies section.

I am not sure about GOG as I have the Steam version, but the manual is available in Steam for everyone: https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/apps/433580/manuals/timelapse_manual.pdf?t=1569518076

Thanks to all. I have found the manual - pretty vintage stuff from 1996!

Having a bit of trouble on Easter Island.
I have got into the cave, lighted the lamp, found the statues, but have no success with the stone face. No lava, no mask, no nothing.

Anyone have a hint for me?

Reading over the walkthrough about this part, I am not sure why the lava and mask aren't appearing for you.

Here's a spoiler about this section of the game (being as you have already lit the lamp, it's hard to provide a hint at this point):

The lamp puzzle

Click on it to get a close up and remember the instructions by consulting your notes or the photograph you took.

1. Place the hand icon over the TANK PUMP to the left and actually move it up and down till you hear it click ten times. Make sure you leave it in the DOWN position, i.e., not sticking up as when you started.

2. Click it on the PRIMER VALVE (the little lever to the bottom right) once to get it in the UP position.

3. Turn the GAS KNOB to the UP position by clicking on it twice.

4. Take a match from the box by placing the hand icon on it and then drag the match along the side of the box to light it. Without letting go of it, apply it to the MANTLE so that it lights.

5. Click once on the PRIMER VALVE to put it in the DOWN position.

When you've done, the lamp will be lit and you can proceed.

Keep going till you come to a spot where you can turn left and right. Look at the statues on the right. Turn left and advance.
Click on the stone face and there will be an outflow of lava: a mask will appear on it.

Been there, done that but no success.
That is the trouble with linear games, I suppose.

The game does not play very well - several times I have tried to use the shortcut to open a game - CTRL O and the game refuses to do so. It turns off and I cannot then turn it on again, and I have to turn the computer off and then reload.

Perhaps the fact that is a Windows 95/98 game - or even earlier - that I am now playing on Windows 7 (from Gog), means that these glitches are likely to emerge.

But you have confirmed that I had been doing the right things, and perhaps I should write off my vast expense on the game ($5 and a few cents) and go back to playing on my old faithful XP computer.

I did wonder why there was only 1 W/T and now I think I know.

Thanks for trying.

Hmm. I am sorry to hear that this did not clarify things. Maybe someone familiar with this game will stop by and have an idea as to what needs to be done or what has gone wrong.

Let's wait and see. It seems unlikely that it's a glitch of some sort. wave

I did find another W/T on Just Adventure but that did not shed any light that was not shining on the GB W/T.

Here is another written walkthrough.

You could also try a video walkthrough. Here is one of them.

Tried the video W/T and it looks as if I was not on the right stone face!

Shamefaced, I shall try again.

I I was on the wrong face.
I assumed the 'stone face' was the face on the stone wall, but is the actual stone head on the floor.

Silly me.
Thanks again, Marian
