Why are my PDF documents opening up in Edge? What do I need to do to stop that?

I got a lot of hits when I did a search, so this is obviously an often asked question! Scroll down a bit to get past all the other stuff and try this:

Thank you. I used the link in the article to download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader which is what I have in my Win 7 (though I don't remember having to install it in there). I'm not sure it's any better than the docs opening in Edge or not but I feel like it is. After the installation completed it took me to the setting where I could change it to always use Acrobat.

You would have had to install Adobe Acrobat on the Windows 7 computer as it was not branded like HP or Dell. Those often come with tons of pre-installed software, but a simple installation of the Windows 7 would not include it.

I use the Sumatra PDF reader which I believe was suggested by *Jenny100 as an alternative to the Bulky Adobe PDF ready and it works like a charm for my purposes.

My apologies to Jenny100 if it was not you, but I know it was somebody from this wonderful forum.

I'm sure you're right Draclvr. I just don't remember doing it. I know people used to talk about the "bloatware" on Dell computers but I liked it because otherwise, I would never have known about some of those programs or where to find them.

Starcom, I saw mention of that Sumatra in the link Draclvr provided and wondered about it, if anybody here uses it.

Now I just spent hours trying to download the free Kindle and the books from my library. They really don't make it very easy to do (in my opinion). All my books are free and I don't know if I've even completed reading one of them, but still, since I pay for that Amazon membership, I might as well exercise my options.

Yes, I know that is off topic.
