You're finding these far too easy these daya. Hopefully these will put paid to all that nonsense...

More word squares - might be the odd toughie or sneaky one included. Usual deal - I give you the clues (not in the correct order evil ), you solve the squares.

-1. The upper portions of the hips
Strike-breaker
Elisha ----, U.S. inventor
Hydrated magnesium silicate

-2. Musical instrument in the brass section
Bad temper or rage
To be adjacent to, adjoin
Wound with a sharp instrument

......... and two of the answers are anagrams

-3. Remuneration
Look at
Looks at
Absent, gone, at a distance

… and now a couple for those who find the above far too easy. These two are not symmetrical - the across answers are different from the down answers, and (as you might have guessed) both sets of clues are mixed together.

-4. Close
Chess piece
Moveable hinged barrier
Inactive
Any conception existing in the mind as a result of mental understanding, awareness, or activity
Dry, withered
Osculation
Narrow thin strip of wood or metal

-5. Portable camping stove
To desire to be or do something
Mr Flatt?
To give, convey, communicate
Absence of urine production
Composed, placid
Moral discourse
Novice
New production of an old film
Pertaining to the stars
Photographic accessory
Cause to be beloved

Enjoy!

Haha! The ones you gave hints for are the ones I had already. But, something still doesn't add up. Here's what I've got:

Code
S T A B
T U B A
A B U T
B A T ?

You know me, Cheryl - I'm all heart! lol

Nice solve - the answer was "bate". Mainly an old-fashioned Britword for rage: "He was in an awful bate" -> "He had steam coming out of his ears and was spitting blood"

I thought it might be bate but couldn't find any definition/synonym that fit with rage. Makes sense it was a "Brit" thing! lol
