I just updated to the latest version of (free) Ccleaner .... which I am finding to be very silly ....

This latest incarnation absolutely incorporates marketing which treats you like an infant - in order to try and get you to buy the "Pro" edition.

I'm fast losing patience with Ccleaner altogether !! rolleyes

I'm not a fan of the newest version either. Now it wants to check my "PC Health?" However, it sure did do a good job for me last week. Got a call from a friend saying she was getting messages saying her hard drive was full. Didn't make sense because all she does is Facebook and email. I went over there and first off, she still had Windows 7. But sure enough her 500 GB drive was full! No documents and maybe 8 small files of photos. No games. So, I ran CCleaner - for forever! But when it was done, her hard drive was back with barely any space used. Don't think I've ever seen anything like it!

I fully admit to not being technically minded, Draclvr, but this new version addresses people as if they are 5 year olds !! duh

However, even though you ARE techie, I'm glad to hear you have been able to make good use of it.

But what on earth had happened to that computer ?? I've never heard of anything like that before woozy

Sounds like I might like this version if it "addresses people as if they are 5 year olds !!" regarding how to use it. I rarely use Ccleaner because I really don't understand how to use it and it scares me! The one time I took a chance it messed up a game I was playing, I'm assuming because of something I left checked or I checked something that I shouldn't have or vice-versa.

I'm also curios about what was actually wrong with that computer.

I remember a long time ago there was a game that needed something that set a cookie. I ran Ccleaner and messed the game up too. Can't remember what it was. Otherwise, I always suggest that people run it at least once a week. It just gets rid of all the trackers and junk that gets left behind as you normally use your computer.

This computer had a lot of other things wrong as she was using Internet Explorer and it had at least 4 BHOs... browser help object... that are nothing but trackers. Shopping and coupon junk. I was unable to run Malwarebytes even from a USB drive, so I'm pretty sure there was other malware on it. I was just going to upgrade the Windows 7, but ended up having to do a clean install because it wouldn't do the transfer. I just gave up and blew away the Windows 7. I had backed up what little information she had, so restored that for her. I don't think she had shut it down for 7 years either, so the virtual memory clog must have been epic!

Oldbroad, you can always move cookies you want to keep over to a "leave it alone" area. If you want some help on how to do it, just let me know.

So, you did do a lot more than just run Ccleaner though. Did you install Windows 10 then or just reinstall Windows 7? (Just curious).

Thanks for the offer to help with running it. There are just too many pages and boxes of things to check or not check and when you don't even understand what the "thing" is, it's hard to know whether to check it or not. I just get overwhelmed when I look at it. I don't even have it installed on my Windows 10 computer at this time.

To get Windows 7 running again, I just ran CCleaner. But since she needed to get rid of Windows 7 ASAP, I went ahead with the Windows 10 installation and then ran into more problems.
