Can you divvy up this stack of 15 numbers into three groups of five numbers each that sum up to 40?

The five numbers of each group must be adjacent to each other.

Toss your solution into a spoiler text box to hide it from others wink

I am just not sure what you mean by adjacent so I'm trying this. Also first time I'm trying to use the spoiler tag. Hope it works. wink

Thanks Remi laugh

OldBroad ... try again

Your three groups 'did' each add up to 40.
However, your five numbers of each group were NOT adjacent (next to-adjoining) to each other.

Thanks soot! I still don't know if I understand it or not. I'll play around with it a little more.

OldBroad ... here's what "the five numbers of each group must be adjacent to each other" looks like using another group of numbers

Code
5 9 15 13
2 7 11 3
4 1 6 8
10 12 14 16

In this square grid of 16 numbers, 5-2-7-1-6 are all adjacent (touching) each other in that sequence/order and equal 21 total

Whereas 8-5-3-4-1 are not "all" adjacent (touching) each other in this sequence/order but they do equal 21 total

Hope this helps

Thanks soot, but understanding this is hopeless for me! curly reached out to me via PM to try to help out also but...

I even looked at his answer and put the numbers in an excel spreadsheet to try to see the connection but it is not meant to be lol

I think I'll stick to anagrams!

Oh, you know what? I think I might understand curly's answers now with the help that you just posted. I added up 3 paths of numbers that touch each other (in curly's answer) that add up to 40 BUT one of the paths consists of 4 numbers, one of 5 numbers, and one of 6 numbers. Does that sound right or am I still missing something?

Ah, 2nd edit: Now I see 3 groups of 5 numbers each that touch each other besides the original 3 groups (though 1 group is from the original numbers). I think I'm starting to not make sense now woozy
