Some of the Amanita games (Machinarium, Samorost 2, Botanicula) were made using the Adobe Flash engine.

Is this the same Adobe Flash that will lose support at the end of this year?

Will these games (GOG versions) still work?

The flash games you already own and the GOG versions or any other places will work because it comes with it's own built in flash drives and files needed to run the games. The only problems one would run into are people who play On-Line games using Flash.

Thank you Starcom. I thought that might be the case but since I really don't know about this stuff, I thought I'd ask yes.

I didn't know for sure either, oldbroad. Good to know.

It won't surprise me if Windows 10 tries to get people to uninstall anything that uses Flash in the future, just like it tries to get them to uninstall QuickTime because QuickTime is no longer supported with security updates. Yes you can force Windows to keep QuickTime, but Windows gives you a lot of threatening messages and some people will be scared by them, thinking it's "unsafe" to play their game.

So Jenny, do you think there may be a problem with the above mentioned games in Windows 10?

As I said, I think you may have to click past dire warnings about the game being "unsafe" because it contains Flash. I certainly had that problem with QuickTime even in Windows 8 -- and that was years ago, back when Windows versions of QuickTime had only "just" been declared unsafe.

So don't be surprised if Windows 10 does something similar when Flash is no longer officially supported.

I doubt Windows 10 will prevent you from installing and playing a Flash game any more than Windows 8 prevented me from installing QuickTime with a game, but don't be surprised if it coughs up a few warnings first.

Ideally Amanita would come up with Flash-free versions if they continue selling their older games.
