So, I've been thinking (always a dangerous thing) about the upcoming Baldur's Gate III and its story. From the teasers and gameplay vids, we see Mind Flayers, also known as Illithid attacking a city and possessing some of the characters.

I just recently flagged BG3 in my Steam Library to be notified when it becomes available for pre-order and I just noticed in the ad picture, there's an image of a Githyanki with their silver sword. That really got the juices flowing, because I've always thought that they are some of the coolest characters, because they sort of span the gap between fantasy and science-fiction by being able to traverse the astral plane and to some degree are keepers or guards of it, even though they are typically pictured as ruthless foes (winner of the run-on sentence award). For those that have played Neverwinter Nights 2, you'll remember that the main adversaries were the Githyanki as they searched for pieces of one of their silver swords.

Anyway, the reason I'm excited is that I've always considered them to be an equally interesting foe as the Drow (Dark Elves) and just an intimidating. Also, because they were originally enslaved by the Illithids, they are mortal enemies. So, if BD3 has Mind Flayers being the main antagonists in the game, that most likely means that the Githyaki will play a pivotal role in the game as well. I'm really hoping that I might be able to build a Githyanki character, that would be really cool.

OK, just thought I'd do a brain dump on my thoughts about this, anyone else getting excited or thinking about this release? It's a nice way to get our minds off of the real world, cuz yuck! grin

I feel a lot more like I do now, then when I first got here

That definitely does sound exciting, Trail_Mystic, but for me BG3 will no doubt have to wait as I doubt my current Win7 machine has the necessary gubbins to play it eek

Well, I think about this upcoming release a lot. I always sort of liked the Gith. I mean, they do actually give you a chance at doing the right thing in BG 2. You don't have to be an absolute ratbag and keep their revered sword. It's important to them, and to you it's just a useful piece of hardware. Not that I ever do actually give them the sword back. grin But it's nice to think that I COULD give it back in some future game.

The one thing I will miss from the previous games, because it seems games have moved away from it, is the ability to roll a high score when creating a character. It was always fun to get that huge score when creating a multiclass character or setting up for a dual-class later in the game. Yeah, yeah, powergaming blahblahblah. It was fun!

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.
