Thanks for that info Marian. I thought I remember reading somewhere that all or most of the games did work on Windows 10. Big Fish doesn't show Win 10.

Well, my story isn't finished either. First, to answer oldbroad; yes it's a replay. I know that because I remember the big W.

Next, when I tried to install it, it went through disk 1, and asked for disk 2. At that point, it didn't recognize that I had indeed inserted disk 2, and kept asking for it. I think this problem is connected to the cd/dvd disk player, because I have had problems with it before. The worst was when I was installing Obsidian, and it ate disk 1 rendering it unusable. One of my favorite games that I can never replay. cry

Now that I read that Ransom is suddenly unavailable, I am loath to try again on this CD-ROM drive, but more anxious to play it (curious what the flap is about)

Then, I thought it prudent to uninstall (unmount/delete/eject/whatever) the iso of Midnight in Salem. It refuses to go away, only giving me an error message that it cant. If anybody has the answer, please lemme know. I think I'll ask about this in Glitches.

dah dee dum dum dah dee daaah - humming Jeopardy theme while I try something else . . . idea

I have a laptop that I only use when away. I didn't want to play a game on that teensy screen, so I connected it via hdmi to my monitor, which is actually a 40-inch Samsung TV. Makes a Great monitor. That allows me to install the game on the laptop and play it on the bigger screen. That worked! It took over 1/2 hour to install for whatever reason; but the game plays.

Glad you finally got it working, Tally Ho.

I have Obsidian working on my computer, but it involves using an emulator running Windows 95. It doesn't require the CDs once it's been installed so no CD swapping either, which is very nice.

Obsidian must be downloadable then. Right?

Not that I am aware of. The emulator is downloadable, but I needed the CDs for the initial installation.

Hopefully GOG or Steam will make it available at some point. There are a lot of people who would be pleased by this.

Getting the ND game to run through the laptop gave me an idea - remember I couldn't run Harbinger full-screen because it flickered?
I downloaded it to the laptop, and Voila - full-screen again. Beautiful!

Whenever I read these great posts, I'm always struck by how persistent we gamers are about getting our old games running! I remember when the problems with games not working on Windows 10 were popping up, somebody said, "Get over it! You don't NEED to replay Day of the Tentacle." Ummm... well, yeah. Maybe I DO!

And yet I daresay that some of those people would be appalled were they unable to re-read a much-loved book or watch a favorite movie again.

Since I am not into tweaking or going through all those hoops, I am trying hard to just "get over it" if a game I want to play doesn't work. It really is frustrating and hard though!

Tally Ho, enjoy your replay. Glad you figured out a way to play it!
