If people say they just love the smell of books, I always want to pull them aside and ask, To be clear, do you know how reading works?

On a fishing trip to a remote lake in Northern Quebec, I asked the outfitter, “Do you stay here during the winter?”

“No,” he said. “The snow gets too deep. We can’t get supplies in. Like many Canadians, I go south for the winter.”

“Oh,” I said. “Where do you go?”

“Vermont.”
~~

How do you prevent a Summer cold?

Catch it in the Winter!
~~

Q: What does daylight saving time mean in Seattle?

A: An extra hour of rain
~~

Q: What do you call a month's worth of rain?

A: England
~~

Q: What do you call dangerous precipitation?

A: A rain of terror
~~

Q: What did the snowman and his wife put over their baby's crib?

A: A snowmobile!
~~

Q: What do you get from sitting on the snow too long?

A: Polaroids!
~~

Q: What do you call two straight days of rain in Seattle?

A: A weekend.
~~

Q: What did one raindrop say to the other?

A: Two's company, three's a cloud

My collection of vintage kitchen utensils includes one whose intended purpose was always a mystery.

It looks like a cross between a metal slotted spoon and a spatula, so I
use it as both.

When not in use, it
is prominently displayed in a
decorative ceramic utensil caddy
in my kitchen.

The mystery of the spoon/spatula was recently solved when I found one in its original packaging at
a rummage sale.

It’s a pooper-scooper.
~~

Girl: Ick! Why does this sandwich have bacon on it?

Friend: You ordered a BLT.

Girl: Whaaaat? I thought the B stood for bread.
~~

While I was out to lunch, my coworker answered my phone and told the caller that I would be back
in 20 minutes.

The woman asked,
“Is that 20 minutes Central Standard Time?”
~~

At an art gallery, a woman and her ten-year-old son were having
a tough time choosing between one of my paintings and another artist’s work.

They finally went with mine. “I guess you decided you prefer an autumn scene to a floral,” I said.

“No,” said the boy. “Your painting’s wider, so it’ll cover three holes in
our wall.”
~~

Client: Please remove the unnecessary circle at the end of the sentence.

Me: You mean … the period?

Client: I don’t care what you designers call it; it is unsightly. Delete it.
~~

When asked for his name by the coffee shop clerk, my brother-in-law answered, “Marc, with a C.”

Minutes later, he was handed his coffee with his name written on the side: Cark.
~~

Before google, there were librarians.

Here are some queries posed to the poor, suffering staff of public libraries:

• A woman wanted “inspirational material on grass and lawns.”
• “Who built the English Channel?”
• “Is there a full moon every night in Acapulco?”
• “Music suitable for a doll wedding to take place between a Shirley
Temple doll and a teddy bear.”
• “Can the New York Public Library recommend a good forger?”
~~

Hallmark: “When you care enough to give a card mass-produced by
a corporation.”

Ritz crackers: “Tiny, edible plates.”

CliffsNotes: “They’re still going to know you didn’t read the book.”

Gillette: “We’re just going to keep adding blades.”

ChapStick: “You’ll misplace it before the tube’s empty.”

Hot Pockets: “Every bite is a different temperature.”
~~

Client to designer: “It doesn’t really look purple.

It looks more like a mixture of red and blue.”
~~

A woman called our airline
customer-service desk asking if she could take her dog on board.

“Sure,” I said, “as long as you provide your own kennel.”

I further explained that the kennel needed to be large enough for the dog to stand up, sit down, turn around, and roll over.

The customer was flummoxed:
“I’ll never be able to teach him all of that by tomorrow!”
~~

Hello everyboomie. welcome

I hope you all had a grand old weekend. Too bad it's over eh? razz

My weekend was like really busy.

Friday I had to fix my ceiling fan, which had a wobble and it finally got to the point where screws were loose, and it was leaning to one side. I was taking it down so I could fix the mounting bracket, but I needed to redo the wiring. Well it fell to the floor. scared

One of the blade arms got bent. I had to go buy a new ceiling fan because Lowe's didn't have an arm that matched the ones on my fan. Looking back....now...I could have replaced all the arms on it cheaper than a new one, but I like the new one better. It then took me at least 3 hours to install the new one. thumbsup

Saturday I started a new project that I was going to start on Friday, before the ceiling fan fiasco, which was to repaint my laundry room. I Had to move a ton of stuff out, take down the shelves, take down a cabinet off the wall, paint the trim, let it dry, tape it off, paint the walls, and paint the shelves. Took all day long....Whew!! Looks awesome though! woot

Sunday....today....was the most challenging part, to re-floor the laundry. I had to re-floor it with the washer and dryer and two cabinet/shelving units, and my water heater all still in the room. shocked

I'm done with it all except for some caulking and paint touch ups.

It looks so good. yay

I'm also done physically. My back is killing me. My hands are killing me, with skinned knuckles and painful thumb joints. My knees are skinned and very sore. My legs are like, "If you get up one more time I swear we're going on strike!" taz

Now if I could just coax someone into mowing my lawn I would be ecstatic. lol

I didn't think I was going to get this diner posted tonight, but here it is.

Enjoy everyone and have a great week. urock

We had crazy bad storms yesterday afternoon. So bad an extremely rare tornado touched down in Chicago. My sons lovely beautiful residential large tree lined neighborhood looks like a war zone. It's really sad seeing 100 year old trees destroyed in a second not to mention they all fell on lovely old homes.

Gerry, hope all is well! How is your sister doing?

Taintedfury, hope your yard project will help! I need to do the same in my backyard.

family, enjoy.

soot, sunrises are lovely, but so is sleep. lol I'll stick with sunsets. smile Be careful on your commute, those stairs and narrow hallways can be dangerous! rotfl

connie, anything fun happening today?

Hi ho hi ho....another day another 50 cents...

Taintedfury, you are so right about home owning! Especially an older home. That is why I keep telling Joe I need him here if he runs out of things to do! lol
Hope hubby's back feels better after a little break.

Have a great day all! Longer days this week. Thankfully, hubby is back to working from home so Nugget has company.

Good morning, enjoy your day. Yes, older houses always need something. My house was built in the early 50's. Sorry about the trees Ana, I love older trees. It breaks my heart when they are lost. Danish, Eggs, Grits, Hash Browns, Bacon, Sausage, and Toast in the NC. summer

Good morning everybody. wave2

I see a lot of busy people running about Gameboomers this week.

I haven't been as busy the last two days. I finished up my laundry room, but when I reconnected my washing machine I could not stop my cold water connection from leaking now matter what I tried. I have the worst luck with plumbing.

I can't believe it, but I had to call a plumber out because of a hose fitting. I was afraid I ruined the nipple, which is plastic. slapforehead

They came out and fixed it. Same guys that I called when I had the big leak. They couldn't believe I had a whole new laundry room. While I had them here I had them fix a toilet problem I've had for a while. Now it's all good.

We are having a stream of 100 degree plus days here. Tomorrow is supposed to hit 105, and then 103. taz

I did manage to find a cool spot to mow my yard though. I walked outside yesterday evening and discovered that some stormy weather was approaching. We didn't get any storms, but the wind and clouds brought some much cooler temperatures for an hour or more, and I ran and jumped on my mower and knocked out that little chore. woot

Ana I read about your storms up there. Glad you're ok. Sorry to hear about all the damage to the trees. hearts

I remember when a storm blew a tree over onto Mom's garage. It did a lot of damage including a hole in the roof that I had to repair, plus replace the gutters on the garage.

Hey Taintedfury sorry your hubby's suffering a sore back. Hope it back to his normal self soon. thumbsup

Connie just reading about your breakfast spread always makes me hungry. Thanks again!! praise

Family I hope your family is doing well, and staying healthy.

Gerry it's great to see you posting. We miss you when you're not here. hearts

Mary it's also great when you stop in to say hello. bravo

Soot I bet you do love that commute. lol

I've had some terrible commutes before and driving in a lot of traffic always stresses me out.

L4L I hope your running is still going well. I took Missy to the park this morning and just the low 80s was more than I wanted to be out in. Anyway I remember when you guys used to load up your gang every day and take them parking. I miss reading about those adventures, like when they would see a squirrel or something. bravo

Time for me to get up and try to get some exercising of my own going. I haven't done anything at all since before I started that laundry room project.

Have a super day everyone.

joe

The house my ex and I purchased in early 1990s was practically surrounded by trees. While pretty, branches were too near the gutters, one was removed because a storm almost uprooted it, another was rotting and the last, the biggest and nicest one, got that disease that hit a lot of trees a while back. Within 15 years, all the trees were gone, and so was the shade. They were missed.

My dentist moved a few miles south but in an area less accessible. Got lost the first two times; think I got it now. Other location was within large area of small businesses and easier to navigate. This is surrounded by expressways; too many roads to figure out. I would not want to have drive around there in the dark, that's for sure. New office is on 3rd floor with great view of weather; which can be good and bad.

Electrician came out to install the new ceiling and outdoor lights for my home. They look great. Another item off my list. Yahoo! grin joy2
