Oh, this makes me SO happy! I had to download my Psychnauts and start a replay. It's been several years, so it's just as good as the first time. Having a ball with Raz!

Doesn't this game belong in the Darkside forum, Ana? The first Psychonauts game was talked about there and it was an action adventure platformer. Is this game any different from that?

I wondered that too, Marian. The first one was most definitely an action adventure platformer and I assume this one would be too.

I don't know, I didn't play the first one and the only discussions that come up in a search are in Adventure Discussions and we have a review in our review section. It seems to be hugely popular in all my adventure groups. If you all think it belongs in the Darkside, I'll be happy to move it.

My feeling is that we can only call it an adventure game if we wish to (very) broadly expand our definitions, i.e. calling something like a new Mario game an action adventure. Looking at a trailer on YouTube shows me jumping, climbing...all the things one would see in a standard platformer. I just wouldn't want someone reading this announcement to think that it is a point and click adventure game or even an adventure game that utilizes a keyboard or a controller like the recently released Roki or Jenny LeClue.

It's interesting to see how much has changed since the original Psychonauts released in 2005. That game was dropped without hesitation into our Darkside forum. Now, with the word adventure being played so fast and loose with now in terms of descriptions, apparently the sequel is being called an adventure game by some people. This is the prevailing trend these days, but it could sure make it confusing for people who still think of an adventure game as having relatively clear-cut parameters.

Here's an old thread from Gameboomers about the original Psychonauts, with folks talking about the game's many challenges. I can't believe that was ten years ago!

Marian, that was the most fun read ever! I have zero memory of making any of those posts, but loved reading through them.

I enjoyed reading through it too, Drac! Good times.

I pulled out my game pad and boy am I glad I did... what fun! Although I must say it's taking me a moment to remember what all my buttons are programed for...lol..

I think it took me at least 5 hours of gameplay before I figured it all out!

Well, I may have come to a unbeatable task for me... the tightrope I can get the first 4 but the 5th on I just cannot do... I know it is a camera angle and timing but try as I may for the last 2 days I just can't seem to get it... even watching a video and trying to place my guy the way the video shows... nope... bummer

Where is the tightrope? Is this still in the basic training part in Oleander's mind?

Yes still in the basic training part... you have a tightrope puzzle.... like 8 of them... first 3 straight up.. 4th one a jump... got that one... 5th one straight up... 6th one a jump can not do it... 2 more after that straight up.. never got to them... this is the part where there is a web that you are told you need a special tool to collect it with.

Yeah, then you're still in the early part. I can't remember for sure, but I "think" I had to do a double jump to get up to the top ones.

Nope, that's all you get. I just overwrite the first ones once I'm past that part.
