No, you don't need one. Just bake for the time recommended. I use a meat thermometer all the time, but it's not necessary.

How do you check your roasts or other meats when you cook? If you don't have one you can check by stabbing with a fork to see if juices run clear but a meat thermometer is my favorite way to check.
