Sierra Collector's Quest is a definitive guide to more than 40 years of gaming history across the entire Sierra On-Line Multiverse. This is NOT a game, it's a collection of books.

You can check out the kickstarter here.

Welcome Fellow Questers!

In the past 40 years, video games have evolved from a niche pastime to one of the largest, most influential entertainment industries in the world. Globally, the market will generate over $150 Billion this year – a massive leap from its humble beginnings of photocopied cover art and ziploc baggies. Despite gaming’s massive appeal (with over 2.7 billion gamers worldwide), there is shockingly little in the way of professionally written historical reference. Sadly, a lot of this important history has already been lost or forgotten. I endeavor to remedy that. Beginning appropriately with one of the preeminent companies of the golden era of gaming… Sierra On-Line.

Overview

At its peak, Sierra consistently topped sales charts and won over legions of devoted fans. Over the years, many game publishers strived to distinguish themselves as the reigning authority of a single genre, or diversified to the point of dilution. Neither strategy typically resulted in overwhelming success. The exception of course was Sierra. By incorporating and cultivating specialized teams that were already masters of their respective fields, Sierra's diversity and expertise grew substantially. Teams like Dynamix, Coktel Vision, Impressions, SubLogic, and many more created a whole that was substantially greater than the sum of its parts.

The purpose of this project is to provide a complete historical record of every game, book, collectible, and artifact that relate to Sierra’s saga. A single tome would be woefully insufficient to cover the entire legacy in appropriate detail. As such, it is my intention to publish a series of books dedicated to uncovering every last piece of Sierra’s long and storied history. This isn't just about collecting, this is about preserving history. The current plan is for four books to be released over the next two years. The Sierra Collector’s Quest series will be the definitive guide to the entire Sierra Multiverse, the first set of books to fully chronicle its 40 years of gaming history.

This Kickstarter will fund the creation of the first two volumes in the series – Sierra Collector's Quest I, and Sierra Collector's Quest 0. The books will be A4 size (8.27" x 11.69"), and are projected at over 750 pages. EACH.

Sierra Collector's Quest I, like all the future volumes is very visually oriented. It covers each series in extreme detail – history, developer bios, and of course detailed information on every known game, book, and collectible variation. Most of Sierra’s flagship adventure series are covered including the Hi-Res Adventures, King’s Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, SWAT, and Leisure Suit Larry.

Sierra Collector's Quest 0 is different than its companions (hence its number). It is basically the framework upon which all the other volumes are built. While it lacks the same aesthetic quality as Volume I, it more than compensates with its staggering abundance of information. More than 28,000 items will be covered across ALL of Sierra’s divisions and partners (including Blizzard Entertainment).

As a Kickstarter exclusive, I will also be releasing the first chapter of the upcoming Volume II as a bonus stand alone guide, Sierra Collector's Quest: Quest for Glory (with foreword graciously written by Sierra Legends, LORI & COREY COLE).

Target Audience

The primary audience for these guides are classic gaming enthusiasts and collectors. There’s no denying the level of nostalgia that Sierra still evokes, many years after its unfortunate fate. Numerous active fan groups and hundreds of Sierra inspired fan games are a testament to their devotion. Adventure gaming fans in particular are drawn to the Sierra name, but the scope of this work extends across a wide array of gaming series.

Game historians of any specialization will find these tomes an invaluable reference. It doesn't matter if you're a Hi-Res Adventurer, a Lounge Lizard, a Police Detective, a Space Janitor, a Hero, or even the King of Daventry. These books have something for just about everyone who is passionate about gaming.

Happy Gaming!
