Hi Bluto,

I played this game many years ago so unfortunately cannot remember the details.

If the walkthrough here does not help with the answers to your questions, I would suggest watching this YouTube video here. The video walkthrough is for the iPad but hopefully watching the part of the game where you are stuck would still help you out.

Is this the original disc version or the port of the tablet version?
If it's the port of the tablet version, keep in mind that many puzzles have been removed from the game and you won't be able to follow a walkthrough for the disc version because it will tell you to do things that have been removed.

The GameBoomers walkthrough mentions a necklace and a business card, so I think he is playing the PC version.

There are two PC versions.
1. The original complete version on disc.
2. The stripped down port of the tablet version, that has puzzles, locations, and other aspects of the game removed.

What do you do when inventory is not there?
You skip past that part.
Sometimes you can find a walkthrough on a casual game website that matches the stripped down version better.

I replayed the game in 2018 but can't remember details. The walkthrough is very thorough though and should help.

As I remember, Bluto only games on a PC, not a tablet.

Yes, this is correct.

And that makes no difference at all.
If they remove content from the "new" version, that content is gone.
It doesn't matter whether you're using the stripped down version on a tablet, a console, or a PC.
It will be missing puzzles, inventory, and locations.

Imagine buying a book, and someone ripped out 250 of the 700 pages.
Those pages are gone and you're not reading them
Doesn't matter what the title of the book is.

As far as I know, the only complete version of Road to India is the disc version.

And I can remember very well how much of the so-called "updated" version of this game was missing compared to the original.

It was one of the worst stripping downs of a game that I'd seen.

I am quite certain he is playing the disc version. He doesn't like downloading games and has had bad experiences with game downloads. I have discussed it with him before.

I'm not having any luck finding another text walkthrough besides the one at Gameboomers.

There are UHS Hints here: https://www.uhs-hints.com/uhsweb/rtindia.php
