Well we could start with a Juicy Fresh Tomato, nothing tastier than a Toasted Tomato tomatosammich.

Lately I have noticed some adults saying the word "sammich" These are grownups not 2 or 3 year children. Just wondering why they were not corrected as children or using common sense. BTW: it's "sandwich."

Hi Laurette, I merged your newest post with the old thread you had already created, which I believe addresses the same topic. wave

If you google sammich, you will find that it is just slang for the word "sandwich." Apparently some people like to use this word when it is a really incredible, perfect sandwich.

I've been using it for along time! It's just slang for sandwich. I use "sammy" sometimes too if it's a really good one!

Count me in with Drac! I have been using the word Sammich for as long as I can remember! A quick google says the Oxford Dictionary said it began in 1940's. It is not a new trend at all!

Really? I don't get out much either but I sure know the word sammich!

The Urban Dictionary says it is "a type of sandwich, not just any kind of sandwich". There appear to be some restaurants in Oregon with the name "Sammich".

Strange. Now I am wondering if maybe its use is more prevalent in certain states/regions of the country. I have also lived in other states (Colorado and New York), and never heard the word there either.

There are restaurants in Cali with the name too, Marian. here is one in LA and one in san diego. I've heard it anywhere I've traveled to to be honest. It's pretty universal, but I guess you have to hang with people casual speak. lol

That's what both my boys called spaghetti when they were little! Now, I didn't know that the origin of the word sammich was back in the 1940's! I had never heard of it where I'm from in NW Iowa though. Started hearing sammich when I moved down here to the St. Louis area 50 years ago.

Yes, I have heard that one before. My father (born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois) used to call it that when I was a child.

Ana, I haven't been in the LA and San Diego area for about 30 years, but good to know! Last time I was in LA was 1991. We were on the seventh floor of the Pan Pacific Hotel, right across from Disneyland, and an earthquake hit with lots of aftershocks. I won't bore you with the details, but after that I vowed never to return to that area unless it was something really, really important. Scared the daylights out of me and my children were there too. I was last in San Diego in the 1980s when my father lived on Coronado Island in a condo. Orville Redenbacher had a condo there too and my father had some good chats with him while in the elevator apparently.

To me pasghetti and sammich kind of go together, that's why I asked that.

Don't they have earthquakes in your part of California? I certainly wouldn't be bored by the details!

Marian, I was in the South Bay Area when the earthquake happened. I was washing my dog. She was full of shampoo and everything stated shaking. I decided to continue to rinse her off just in case we lost water. We then ran out side. Did I mention that I wash my dogs in only my underwear rotfl

Not much, and we are not on a fault line. I have only felt a very mild shaking here a couple of times in the last 20 years. This is just one of the reasons I like living in this area. I lived in Napa for 16 years and spent some time in Santa Rosa in my childhood (both cities north of San Francisco), and those cities are on the Hayward and San Andreas faults respectively. No, thank you! Not going to do that again.

Winfrey, that is too funny! And we always seem to remember exactly what we were doing when the earthquake hits.

Pasgetti is easier for kids to say when they're younger. I remember my sister using it when she was little. I've not heard Sammich used here, though.

I think I'm quite ready for another adventure.

What was that point, flotsam?!

There is a chain of family restaurants named P'sghetti's Pasta and Sandwiches in the St. Louis area.

Huh, I thought words like 'sammich' and 'psghetthi evolved from kids saying them because they couldn't say the actual word. Never heard of restaurants with those names. I say 'sammich' just to be funny. My sister literally couldn't pronounce the 'spa', always said 'pisghetti'. To bring in a different word. My brother could never say 'elephant'. It always came out 'eptom'.

Ah. I haven't been to The Bay in years, not since I retired. I guess it's down in the Food Fair.

Wow. That brought back memories!

I've never heard the word Sammich or the different spellings for Spaghetti !!

So either they are "American-isms" or I'm just plain out of touch these days lol

Drac, I agree. I could be wrong, but I don't think there are too many other countries that play with the English language the way American's do.

I'm terrible about "correct" grammar too. Anything used incorrectly is like fingernails down a blackboard to me! But I'm also good with some slang and regional differences. I was quite surprised when Ana found out that sammich is slang used back in the 1940's!

So all this talk of a sammich is making me hungry !! lol

One of my simpler favourites would probably be slices of home made bread "top" and "bottom".

With plenty of English mustard on nice quantities of beef sirloin (that I have roasted myself) "between".

Delicious dance
