So Mad, it's been a few weeks now. How are you liking your new computer and Windows 10?

I'm actually only using it now and then, oldbroad, because my Son in Law has still not fully finished sorting the KVM or Networking to his satisfaction.
(The "time" thing.)
But I AM gradually getting to grips with Win10 - even if only to deal with Mail and using the internet 😁

I rarely use the Windows 10 email. Don't like it. Don't like any email other than my MSN mail app. I just can never figure out how to really use any other ones. I've tried but end up too frustrated. The other day I was trying to use Outlook to send an email but the address wouldn't pop up (like it would in my MSN) so I finally found the address book but then couldn't get back to the email to put the address in it. Ended up opening my MSN app which I had been trying to avoid. duh

Seems like you must be doing alright with it all so far. You haven't posted for any help. smile

There really isn't a Windows 10 email. If you have Outlook, you must have Office installed on your computer. I agree that Outlook takes some getting used to, but I persevered and am like you with it it now! I don't want to learn a new one!

There is some kind of mail that came with Windows 10. I have an icon in my task bar for it and it is not something I put there. It seems to be connected with Edge I guess. Maybe it is the unpaid Outlook. It just says "mail" when you hover over it.

In addition to that, I do have Outlook installed as well as my MSN.

I used Outlook Express for years and then moved on to Outlook and have stayed with it.

(I did try Thunderbird for a while but then ditched that 😑)

If the icon looks like an envelope, that's the Mail app. It is used to add your existing email accounts in order to manage them from one place. You would have had to set up an Outlook.com (the free web-based email) account. And, no it's not connected with Edge. I use the Mail app to monitor a BUNCH of email accounts for out American Legion post. I also have a Gmail email account and an Outlook.com account that are mine that I monitor. I also monitor hubby's Gmail account there. I like it because it shows me at a glance if emails have arrived.

This is a pretty good description of the Mail app. Note that is says existing.

Quote
Windows 10 Mail is only a sync service for existing mail accounts both online and in your office mail if you have it.

That's the one and I don't care if it's "existing" or however they want to word it. To me, it came with Windows 10 so it is Windows 10 email. Whatever you call it, I don't like it and only open it so I can shut it again because it does show incoming mails down in my task bar, although not always. Only on some days it shows them and some days it doesn't and I don't understand that!

I'm obviously not explaining this well. No, the Mail app is not existing! It SYNCS existing email accounts and nothing more! It is not an email program itself. What email account do you have associated with it? It will tell you on the left side.

This is a screen grab of all the email accounts I use the Mail app to sync so I can see if mail came in or not.

I know exactly what you're saying Drac, but it is still an email app program that came with Windows 10 and is not easy or good enough for me to ever want to use it to send emails out of (or really to read incoming emails on either).

The part I was saying I didn't understand about was why some days that envelope in my task bar shows me I have emails and some days it doesn't show me even though I do have email everyday.

And I would think you don't really want all your email addresses showing there in that screenshot??

I know... I thought of that. But they are all public anyway! Just wanted to demonstrate that the Mail app is not an email program. It is an app to manage all your email accounts. Now that I've done that, I'll probably delete it. But as I said, they are all public anyway. I just didn't want anyone else to get the wrong idea about what the Mail app is for because it is not an email program.

I've found that number thingie to be useless. What I would suggest you do if you don't want to use the Mail app is to delete whatever email account is associated with it. To do that, just click on the gear thingie on the bottom, then click on Manage Accounts. Click on the account you want to remove from the Mail app and then follow the prompts on the next screen.

Drac, not to keep harping on this but, if I can send and receive and manage my emails in there, to me, that is an email program. Since my MSN app is the same thing, apparently I don't have ANY email "program". That may not be the correct terminology but you should know by now that I am not computer literate, am digitally challenged, and don't have the biggest vocabulary. I say that, not to put myself down, but to state the facts. blush

I get it! But, nope! It's not an email program all by itself. If you didn't have your email account associated with it, it would just sit there like a lump. But that's OK. I just don't want someone else to think it is. Terminology can be important. If you like it, just keep using it! It's far from perfect, but when you need to monitor a lot of emails from different programs like I do, it's a very handy app.

lol As I said, I get it "for you!" Just need to make sure there is no misinformation for someone else!

And if you ever figure out that number thing, let me know!
