Hello all, It's fun to be back. I have finally been able to play Syberia: The Time Before. Until yesterday I have enjoyed it for its straight-forward story lines and its beauty. It has been a thoroughly pleasant experience. However, yesterday I reached what seems to be about the halfway point of the game. I'm at the mountain retreat with both take (Now) and Dana (Then). I believe that I have spoken with everyone I can speak to and done everything I can do and am now (As Kate) looking for the attic. Here's the trouble: I have found the upstairs lever that I think opens the attic stairway. I can interact with the lever and when I try, Kate pushes down on the lever and nothing happens. I have done this as often as 12 times with the same results. It's also true that once I begin to interact with the lever, I am able to keep interacting forever, but cannot exit that scene. I must exit and restart the game which places me, still upstairs near the lever. If I try again...same result. I assume I have missed a trigger, but can't imagine what i is. Any ideas?

Welcome back, Haze! I haven't played this one, so other than a walkthrough or someone who has played it, I'm afraid I'm not much help. If you cannot exit the scene, that sure sounds like a glitch.

I haven't played the game either, so I would recommend taking a look at a video walkthrough for the part of the game you are stuck on.

There is a video walkthrough here. This is the first part of several parts. You would need to figure out which walkthrough part corresponds with where you are.

Hope all is okay with you; it's good to see you here. And you were remembered on your birthday earlier this year - which you can take a look at here. smile

I actually have tried that, but Kate doesn't seem to have much trouble in the walkthroughs. I'll work at it a bit. As for me, I'm fine, and thanks for the thought. I am simply learning that these "Golden Years" contain a bit more lead than I planned to deal with.

Well, curses! I just spent an hour watching a video walkthrough and could not find one thing that I missed in the process of getting Kate to the attic of the refuge, but she still won"t pull the lever hard enough, and I still can't back out out pf scene. This is irksome because I have looked forward to playing this game for a couple years (Really!) I guess I'll try Google and see if there's a patch or something. [I can always play URU again.] Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion or an idea.... Meanwhile, good night all.

Thanks, oldbroad. Haze, it sounds like pulling it hard isn't what's needed, but rather pulling it very quickly over and over.

Thanks, "oldbroad", that seemed to be the answer. For no reason I tried it again and it worked. I found I needed to not interact often, but had to do it just once, while constantly clicking on the the left-Hand button rather just holding it down. It is possible that the dignified application of special profanities (That I learned in Southeast Asia about 50 Years ago) may also have helped rectify the situation. No real matter; I am off to discover the secrets in the attic. Thanks to all who suggested things.

I'm glad you are able to move on now The Haze. I do not like when you have to do that *click fest* thing in a game. I haven't played this yet so I hope I'll remember to do this when I get to this part. Enjoy!

Oh, I'm sure it was those special profanities that finally did the trick!
