I finally figured out how to mark the map. So now I'm going back to all the important places and mark them. Yea! (a small but gratifying success.) Now, off to find those pesky teleporter stones
See you on the dark side

Surprisingly I am. I'm still a bit overwhelmed but thanks to you guys helping me it's getting a little easier. Each little thing I learn increases my enjoyment level. I haven't really had to kill anything yet except a skeleton and I'm still not clear on how to get weapons and potions yet. But i'm sure y'all will help me with that.
Thanks again
Kim

You'll find lots of weapons in the catacombs. Lots and lots of Axes. I've sold three or four to George already. After checking that they are not the special one needed for a quest.

I've restart the game as a magic user. Meteorstrike is awesome. I can fire off a lot of blasts very quickly. Very useful when surrounded by the dead.

When wandering the catacombs, be careful to save often! It's very easy to get caught and die. I finally made it past a level that was very tough to get through (especially a still wimpy magic user)

Oh rats Kim, I forgot you asked about that..glad you figured it out!
**Edit Here**
I loved Beyond Divinity too..so funny!!

As was stated, make sure you break open anything you can, click on whatever you have killed..those bonefolks have weapons sometimes. And make sure every now and then you check your equipment, make sure not in need of repair
In the catacombs will be bonefolks and rats..but all kinds of bonefolks..and you'll run across some orcs..they're friendly underground, above ground..kill him/her is all you'll hear, and they mean it.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun a little but how do I get skills or a higher skill level?

By the way, I'm really good at stealing stuff smile

Thanks so much for the help

Every time you gain a level, you get a point to spend on any skill you want, and every 5th level you get an extra point.

Click on the skills button at the bottom of your interface, I forget what it looks like, a screen will open showing one of the skill paths (either survivor, warrior, or mage), click on the arrows to move from one path to the next. Click on any skill to use a point.

Hi Kim, happydance

I bet you have leveled and don't even know yet.

The nice thing about DD is it is rather easy.
You do not have to chose just the things from your character-Warrior- you can also chose points from the other characters and use them.
Just don't spread your points out too much..the more in one categories, the better you become.
It's fun to look and chose what you want for your
warrior...I did like the lock pick from the survivor, and enchant weapons from warrior and a spell or two from the mage.
Also, to become proficient in your weapon of choice..sword, bow whatever..

Have fun..beat up those skellies for me.

You've probably already noticed this, but the warrior has a "special move" that is really effective.

Ok Ingie, I not following the whole points concept. Can you explain it to me. I kinda know what the skills are but I don't know about the points. Also how do I become proficient in weapon, just by using it?

Ok Nickie, I have no idea what special move I have. So far all I'm good is stealing and swinging my sword.

Thanks guys
Kim

Kim,

did you find the User Manual for the game? It's a pdf on Disc 1. It sounds like you should get a little better acquainted with the interface at the bottom of the screen and reading the manual is useful for that. There are buttons on the interface that allow you to browse skills (this is where you can find the special move), browse potions, choose your weapon etc. but reading the basics can certainly help.

Hi Kim wave
Here we go, hope this will help....

Say, you have 6 points to use. This will told to you when click on the screen that shows the skills.
You may go through and read each character's skills. The ones that are open to you now will be shown.
You may then make your decision..let's say you want to be proficient with a sword, click on that skill..a little light comes on under that skill. To reach perfection in a skill I think it's 5 points in that skill. Then say, looking at the thief's skill, lockpick looks very interesting, so click on it(it should be open to you)..you have now used up 2 of the 6 points..And you want a little magic for the big skellies..go into Mage and click on a really nice sounding skill..oh, meteorite strike..something like that.Again, chose between what is open to you at this time.
Again, you have used another skill point. Now you have 3 left..you may spread them around or go back and see if you're able to up the skills you have chosen.
Some will depend on your level if you're able to.
If not, you can save your poins or pick another skill, like IDing, or repair..
Every time you level, you get xx amount of skill points and every 5th level you get a bonus skill point..might be 10th, long time since I played, and lousy memory, but you'll know.
Now that you have these skills, you are able to use them as you go about your duty of clearing up the place and finding out why the Mage is Mad.
For your special skill, there is a little icon, I think on the right side, near the middle, click it and watch your warrior..whirl and kick..very nice in the heat of combat.

Hope that garble helped, if not, email me and we'll get it!!

You get the first pyramid stone when you unlock the catacombs. The elf gives it to you. Then it sits in the misc part of your inventory.

The diary icon keeps track of everything that you've done so far. So that's the place to check for your current quests, look at conversations you've had with characters, see what battles you've won...so that will tell you if you've unlocked the catacombs and have the pyramid quest yet or not.

It's probably a good idea to wait until you've built some combat experience before you use the one to find the other though.

The clues to unlocking the catacombs comes from the frozen elf on a stick you saved..just keep walking around.
You should have your mini map on the screen, it helps let you know what areas you've not expored yet.

Remember talk to anyone about everyting..

Hi smile

I found it best to explore as much of the first upper surface area - the village and it's surrounding land - as I could, before I ever ventured into the catacombs.
That way I mapped the area, killed as many enemies as possible to get their goodies AND got my levels up a bit lol

Otherwise, being the wimp that I am, I just got anhialated down there in those catacombs scared

Cheers.

Kim,

Your health bar is what tells you..look for the red bar..the blue bar is called mana and that is what is needed to cast magic.
Your red potions, rest, eating, some drinks will keep your health up to full..keep an eye on it during bigger battles and SAVE before and after battles.
Good for you!! Level 3..were you able to find your skill charts??
Also, good idea after picking up your goodies, to check your equipment. Don't use anything that carries a curse..and don't use items not identified yet..just in case they have a curse on them.

That's what i thought Ingie but my health bar all the way up. Strange because it looked like the skeletons were kicking my behind. Guess I'm stronger than I thought.
I haven't checked any of my items but how do i check for curses. Also if they have a curse do i get rid of them or is there a way to take the curse off/

One reason your health went up, is that you leveled. When you level, nice during a battle; you stats go all the way back up.

You cannot change a cursed item. However, when you are not sure what something is and do not have "identify item"skill..take it to a local dealer; save, have them identify, which costs..the reason for the save; sometimes the item is a whole lot less once IDed because it is cursed. So if saved first, can go back to the saved game and just sell that nasty item as is and let the dealer worry with it.

You're doing great bravo ..you got both pyramids now??
That's great. praise
One of the best ways to use them right now..keep one by a bed and keep the other with you. If you're in the catacombs and want to take a haul of goodies with you, take the pyramid out of your backpack and place it on the ground...remember SAVE first...just in case it doesn't work and you go back with the stone in your backpack. Do your trading and fixing up, rest step on the stone by your bed, and blink you're back where you left off..remember to pick the stone up! SAVE again..you're off for more nosey about smash those vases and crunch those skellies..fun ahead
If you need a fast escape, just double click on the one in your backpack to go back to safety.
Save ... the bad guys will remain at the health you left them, but you can heal and just have find a passage back to them. If you have time, always try to drop the stone and then step on it..but if it's between doing that and dying..don't do that

And if you do drop the pyramid to use it, do *not* under any circumstances forget to put it back into your inventory before you leave the area. It is so irritating to have to go back and find it later.

And never forget, he/she who fights and runs away may live to fight another day. Running from monsters will generally at least spread out the attacks a bit. Above ground, I sometimes run toward where I know some soldiers are. Might not get as much experience, but I live through the encounter.

My catacombs are cleared out, thanks to deadly gift. The wizard did a better job than a previous character did, but only cause she had some scorpians to throw around. smile
